Why is the ufo landing option outrigth disable in the latest patch? Seems lile something that should be left to player choice rather than blocking it (so basically making file edit needed to reenable it.)

Because Dioxine decided that this option ruins the player experience, as it disturbs the focus/relax cycle.

Well Imo that is something that should be left to the player, I find it much more stressing to have to be keeping an eye in an UFO to land than to just let the time run till it lands.

In Primal Hunts...

How come no Javelins (ie, Atl-Atl)
How come no Longbows (its about the only reason id make them, an expensive primitive weapon)
How come no Hyena Rider (its about the only reason id get one; just make a 2x2 pad for it in the hunt party ufo)

These are annoying little things.

Anybody got tips on how to get ahold of an advanced rifle? It's blocking me from grabbing the Advanced Firearms tech. Is there a specific sort of mission type that usually has it? Or is it just pure luck on getting someone to spawn with it (or interrogating like fifty Human commandos I guess but so far I've only run into one of those)

There's a 2% chance to get it from opening an Old Earth Weapons Box. And 4% chance to get it from Bank Robbery mission. No easy way to get it.
You basically have to research everything else first, before researching Human Commando, to reduce the chance of getting something else. Or keep researching Decrypted Data Disc until you get it.

A bit bummed.

For the RNGods deemed to curse me with the lack of Ratman missions of any kind for months in several aborted runs in the row, and thus robbing me of the Highway House missions.

If you research "!Underground Missions!", the "Ratmen Cache" mission will have a 100% spawn until you finish it once. The Ratmen Rodeo has a 63% chance to spawn per month for the first 15 months tho.

"Ratmen Cache"

Do they actually feature Lieutenants, though?

No. Nevermind that then. Anyway, Bandit Town (!Bandit Business!), 39% per month, also spawns a Lieutenant.

ooh, actually good idea on the decrypted data disks. I think I'll just set up a production line for them in my main base now that I don't need to make x-grog (money hasn't been a concern since I opened up my "resort" hideout)

Decrypted disks are a good manufacturing project for a minor research base, whenever you manage to grow a brainer slot or two at your second or third base. Things like that are basically 'free' (<5 day) research topics in a random draw, so it's helpful to keep Disks and Gun Almanacs and Lok'Narr Scriptures and so on ticking over alongside normal targeted research progression. Even if the techs and hints are a crapshoot they're still worth points.

What does shadow veil STC even supposed to do? Description says it "allows an expedient retreat from combat", but that's a straight up lie. Acceleration doesn't help escaping HKs or other UFOs in an way, does it?

From my understanding of dogfightState.cpp, literally the only thing acceleration does is allow more shots when chasing an escaping UFO, which is the exact opposite of what the item description implies.

Code: [Select]
if (_currentDist < _targetDist ...)
distanceChange = 2 * _craftAccelerationBonus; //note that _craftAccelerationBonus is (acceleration/3+1); a value between 1 and 4
When you're disengaging, the target distance (the distance to which you're trying to move to) will always be above current distance, so yes, acceleration will help disengage faster. It's a minor thing, so I think the main benefits of SHADOW VEIL are the +100 craft speed and +3 dodge bonuses.

Right, seems like a very useless bonus then. If the enemy is a faster HK, you can't attempt to escape anyway. If it's not, you wouldn't pick the fight if you aren't winning it, so you wouldn't be disengaging to begin with.

Is there a different way you're meant to get the
Spoiler:
Syn Soldiers
these days? Because I remember getting them every odd space mission last time I played but now I've gone on about a dozen and none have shown up. Have I just been really unlucky?
