It is entirely possible that the RNG just hates you. (2/3)^6 ~= 9% chance to not get any of those missions in six months' time. You do have Alien Vocabulary, right?

Shogg has its own research arc. Croc raids and Reptiformer towers you get automatically, the rest is gated behind research, starting with Hidden Caves and Into the Dark.

Thats the thing, I've got alien vocab long ago and I've even interrogated an alien commander, I'm on the stage of Heavy Plasmas and power suits and it's like 2006.

And for the latter I've done into the dark and interrogated reptoid agents but nothing other than those missions.

Capture and interrogate MIB commander, and then you start getting monthly Ethereal retaliation missions. If you play it right, you can obtain the commander from those. But note that the Ethereal commander is a sneaky bastard and won't come along to the base attack missions, so you'll need to shoot down their very large ship.
Thing is I've done this now but no Ethereal retaliation missions for about 6 months now, is there anything else i'm missing? I've not done vampire castle yet for example.

On that note I feel like you get absolutely no shogg missions, I've gotten 1 croc raid and that tower mission but nothing else. Do I need to complete the zombie arc first?

Wait, how do you get pulse weapons early?

After getting kevlar the first month, I usually get H&K and Shotguns for a couple months, then eventually upgrade to HMG backed by BlackOp weapons. I haven't gotten pulse weapons the first year.
Iirc in order to unlock pulse guns you have to do the MAGMA mission line, and to unlock that you need to research the 'they are breeding!' zombie report, though imo pulse weapons are pretty much useless by then, UAC and blackops rifles do much better in general performance

Funnily enough, shortly after this I got an MIB commander but no etherial retaliation missions yet, do I need to research the ship type before I see them? Since that seems to be the case for MIB ships, never saw a stike ship until I got the UFOpedia article.

Just got this crash message out of nowhere, note that I've already completed the hideout mission years ago. The Autosave is a few days before the crash.

In my current game I've gotten to promo 3 and interrogated an alien commander, but it seems like in order to progress further I need to capture an ethereal, but I've only ever seen 2 ships with them in my current playthrough, any advice on how to proceed?

I could be wrong but the answer there is no. Once a country has signed a "pact", they will never fund you again.
I see, though the Colony description does make it sound like it would, might need to be changed to remove the implication.

If I destroy Alien colonies, will the funding nations come back? Like the Embassies from ages ago.

Has anyone got any tips on how to deal with Gazers? They seem to be in all my damn UFO's, also how dangerous are alien turrets?

In my next campaign, I had a similar delay issue with Cult Outposts. It took about 10 months (April 1998) to get the outpost of the final cult (BL). So before that you couldn't get all the cult operations research and you couldn't get OSPREY, so it would not make sense to research other cult operations either (going after Cult Forward Bases with helicopter or dragonfly is extremely risky).

Is using Helicopter or Dragonfly really that risky? I killed all cults by'98 using the helicopter, the only one that gave me issues iirc was either the Black Lotus or Red Dawn, the rest were pretty easy, using Blackops weapons and Liquidator Armour.

Where do I obtain a Tritanium Matrix for the Alloy Foundry?

I've been doing another playthrough recently and it's been a long time since my last one, lots of interesting stuff since 2.0!

I do have some qeustions though:

Why is all cults contained no longer a promo 3 requisite? What's now the best way to go for it?

Cult mansions, how do they work and will they still spawn once the associated cult is countained?
