Docs and macs

At some point some people mentioned that my code was undocumented. And as we all know some people is practically ALL people! Everyone despising my code for it’s horrific conventions and undecipherable codex’s and terrifying brackets. Never again to look back at the project for they know deep within lies pure evil. It’s criminal! The Geneva Convention shouldn’t even allow it! Why next thing you know there are people out there being tortured by the sheer vile horror that is my code. And then their children will be left orphan, and maybe also homeless, filled with pain and misery knowing that such a thing exists out there in the world, just waiting for the one moment when they are alone and helpless… just waiting… in some dark alleyway in some hidden corner in a rainy day… and before you know it… a null pointer strikes…

What I’m trying to say is the code is now all documented so your children are safe.

Also, there is now a Mac build available thanks to forum member marabus. Try it out and let us know if you have any trouble running it.

Clarifications

There’s been a lot of buzz about the project lately, and a lot of misconceptions, so I should clear some things up:

  • I am not looking into forming some team full of programmers, artists, etc. There’s plenty of other projects for that. This is a small job and I’d rather not have it prolonged any further with having to manage and guide a team. I know the project is open-source, but that just means people are free to do with the code as they wish, and given the huge amount of X-Com projects out there, I figure a public codebase for a base X-Com engine might help them get off the ground instead of always starting from scratch and eventually getting abandoned. You’re free to learn from the code, set off to do your own projects with it (within the GPL), whatever. I have been working on this for a while and have only decided to make it public based on people’s feedback and to see if people would actually appreciate this sort of thing. That doesn’t mean this is some big colossal collaborative thing, people can help out just fine without making this some big bureaucracy, check the Contributing page for more info.
  • The project contains no copyrighted content.

Soldiers with names!

Finally finished the soldier name generation. Copy-pasting a bunch of names is probably one of the most boring things I’ve ever done. 😛

Also fixed some bugs like the game not working with X-Com DOS and the MAGIC INVISIBLE MISSING CURSOR PIXEL, and you can run the game on full-screen now with -fullscreen. This build’s up in the Downloads.

Welcome!

Welcome to the OpenXcom project! After many months of top-secret development, it’s finally out in the open, so you can feel special for knowing about it now. If you’re an X-Com fan, you should enjoy this.

If you’re new here (which you probably are), you might wanna look around and read the About page to figure out what this is all about. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to keep this website updated as development progresses.
