Suggestions / Debree
« on: November 10, 2014, 02:46:37 pm »
What if sometimes when you shot down a ufo there was some debree that was blocking the exit? (or just scattered around the ship in general) it would add alot of reasons to buy demolition charges early in game and it would allow some of the aliens to choke on smoke (which seems pretty cool if you ask me) i think it could be a pretty good concept if it was refined some more, any suggestions?

Suggestions / Deploy multiple planes simultaneously
« on: May 09, 2014, 08:17:28 pm »
since you can have more than 1 plane attack a ufo at the same time it would be nice to be able to select multiple ships to deploy at the same time so you can do it without waiting for them to take off again if you even want that to happen

Suggestions / Contracts
« on: May 05, 2014, 06:42:03 pm »
maybe we could have x-com take contracts where they take different jobs from nations to get rid humans negatively effecting them.  like maybe a rebel group pops up in Nigeria and you can to stop them from hi-jacking a ship, attacking a capitol, holding hostages at a base etc.  while this sounds like bringing your status down from defender of earth to world police here is what it could add in terms of game-play:

  • Would provide basic training for recruits so you don't have to go through 3 months before becoming a sergeant
  • Would give you more things to do in early months while you wait for stuff to happen
  • Would add a bit of variety instead of killing exclusively the same level of alien for 1/2 months straight
  • Wouldn't have a penalty if skipped and only a slight addition to countries liking of you (maybe 10-100)

anyone have any thoughts on this?

Suggestions / base terror missions
« on: April 28, 2014, 06:20:50 pm »
Maybe we could have terror missions where we go and defend government bases (looks like x-com bases aesthetically using the same basic blocks except for hangars so once you enter in an elevator, there is no way out unless you have jetpacks or beat the level)  and there are security guards with pistols and rifles (work like civilians as in not under your control and their guns are cheaper than yours so they sell for less and maybe even have an alternate skin?) and maybe 1/2 HWP's and you have to make sure that they don't destroy some sort of control center (mission doesn't fail if you kill all aliens just a large subtraction from score/rating)  anyone think this would be interesting? (needs fine tuning though probably)

Work In Progress / [WIP] HECU armor
« on: April 25, 2014, 02:51:37 pm »
you ever wanted to play one of the HECU marines from half life in x-com? no? yes? well here's your chance! ya its still got a lot of work to do, but if anyone has suggestions on how to vary colors for pixel art like this so alot of it isn't the same boring color, it would be appreciated.  it was done in ms-paint so i'll get rid of the ugly white background later in or something with the correct pallette. it will (probably) be a reskin of warboy's combat armor.  also thinking of doing a complete half life themed total conversion for openx-com! (might just be a modpack also)

Suggestions / Armor modifiers
« on: April 24, 2014, 07:38:27 pm »
what if for armor there were 4 different sub types of it? a light version which could hold very little in terms of inventory but weighed less and allowed for soldiers to have more time units at the cost of protection, a medium version that had a balance between weight, time units, and inventory slots, a heavy one that has the same inventory as medium but higher tu cost for everything other than firing weapons or throwing things.  and then a fourth kind which has a the same tu cost as medium but less protection and more inventory space but also weighs less?  anyone think the idea of having a quartermaster kind of role for somebody as a good idea? (I'm pretty sure it would be hard, if not impossible to code something like this in since all inventory's are the same for all units but would be nice to see if that's somehow possible)

Offtopic / X-com's tactical inferiority
« on: April 24, 2014, 03:20:14 pm »
i meen seriously, its like they aren't even trying sometimes! they barely use any equiptment that could help them greatly improve their position over the alien threat, making their jobs way more dangerous and putting the lives of civilians at risk aswell! i meen they could be using fortified chokepoints in their bases, mounted machine guns, automated turrets (or operated from a distance), they could have tripmines, shotguns, sholder mounted flashlights, night vision, flamethrowers, and soooo many other things... anyone else ever feel this way too?

Work In Progress / Empty magazines and belts.
« on: November 14, 2013, 08:26:35 pm »
It would be nice if we could have some magazines that don't magically dissapear after use and would just become empty.  Allow me to ellaborate, when you use up a magazine in any gun that requires an external ammunition source, it will just disspear instead of having to un-load it from the gun.  it would be nice if we could get magazines that maybe had an extra .5 or .1 of shots inside so you had to un-load it from the gun before you could add a new magazine, but not affecting things that don't have anything left in them when they are finished.  also maybe have them become their own item and instead of just buying magazines you bought bullets in bulk and had to have engineers re-load them or something, or maybe just have them reloaded like aircraft weapons? just another thought to add some need for engineers other than just making things.

Work In Progress / Portable cover HWP
« on: November 13, 2013, 06:34:23 pm »
Could we get a hwp that has next to max armor (maybe not being able to protect agianst explosives and fusion launchers)  in a 1x1 kind space that would be used in base defence and fully shield soldiers in narrow base hallways?

Work In Progress / Sitcom mod
« on: November 13, 2013, 05:27:47 pm »
anyone here think  a mod where we replace death sounds with stock audience laughter and the end of each mission with stock applause and when you fail a mission or just the whole campaign stock "heavy laughter."  and on the geoscape replace it with the theme that plays at the beginning of that show with Steve urcle that goes "it a rare condition" or whatever.  just saying it would be kinda nice after playing with this thing for countless hours to just not take it seriously.

ooh! and also replace explosions with fart sounds (maybe)

Work In Progress / Fortification
« on: November 07, 2013, 03:18:52 pm »
Maybe we could have something like fortifying your bunker with things like maybe having some sandbags (maybe a re-colored/re-textured version of the stone wall from some of the farm levels) in things like the elevator like 1 on each side of each entrance and maybe something similar in the hangar.  and maybe having something like a sentry gun you could buy and carry with soldiers (if it looks like the ones from half life which it style would probably compliment this it could be a folding one that takes up a 1wide 3 tall amount of space) that can be dropped and have a tool with med-kit like code to place/build and repair it.  and maybe it uses auto-cannon ammo and can have a good amount of accuracy for choke-points?  maybe even upgrading it to laser and plasma?  and also having a checkpoint room would be cool too, like something that has a good amount of tactical value to make sure nothing gets in/out thats not supposed too and maybe even a vantage point into hangars and stuff? also if there were things like portable cover (i don't like giving this series credit but i must admit the riot shield in bo2 did have a decent amount of tactical value as cover)  and maybe having laser trip mines in combination with regular ones like setting up a transmitter and reciever? (i know that one is far fetched but would be cool) just a few ideas if anyone wants them!

Suggestions / Fire is underused
« on: August 22, 2013, 08:50:07 pm »
In my opinion, i thought incendiary weapons ini this game were my favorite kind, where you can use them to block off hallways and burn out enemies in wood buildings.  But the only problem with them is that they are entirely underused, which is a shame because of how fun they are (also since this game was 1992 this was pretty advanced stuff for the time from my understanding of it)  do you think there is any way to utilize this more? like maybe how all enemies and friendly's become invincible to fire later on in the game, maybe not have anything fireproofed?
