Julian Gollop, the creator of the original X-COM series, is at it again. His next game, Phoenix Point, is a strategy game following closely in the footsteps of the original X-COM, composed of real-time management and turn-based tactical battles as you fight a new menace on a world scale. Featuring mutating aliens! Procedural destructible maps! Factions! Geoscape! And more!
Similar to his previous game Chaos Reborn, he will be going the crowdfunding route. You can read more details about the game and support it here: https://www.fig.co/campaigns/phoenix-point
Hej OXC.
Thanks for the hint.
The game mechanics look very promising but actually for me its to much horror / dystopic. I am more a fan of the “classic” grey alien(s).
But maybe Phoenix Point is mod’able as well and we can see an x-com-mod in the future…
Greetings to all alien hunters out there!
🙂
Please don’t make another card game like Chaos Reborn or Firaxis’ “XCom”, please…
Someone played Firaxis XCOM with their eyes closed…
Wtf, never lost hope in Julian!! I was waiting for him to go X-COM on us! Forget Chaos, it’s all about tactical turns w/ cosmic horror!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUU
So, we finally get a game I can put my money in. I’ve only ever played OXC up until now, so it’ll be my first 3D tactics game and this looks way cool.
I’m hoping he gets into faction politics soon, that will secure my money in his pockets.
It’s a gamble when it comes to these fundraiser games. Waiting for a GOG release with all features on Day one is the best move, I suppose.
On the plus side, I’ll be missing out on supporting a possible goldmine, since I don’t play anything else but Openxcom for my daily adrenaline release, dammit…
No thanks, Chaos Reborn already confirmed to me that Gollop is a complete hack these days.
We’ll probably have amazing new mods by the time Phoenix Point is out that we can fall back to if it fails.
Btw, he was a little rusty that time. I think he’ll be just fine with his new crew.

Wanted to say “board game”, which it totally is – round system from DnD instead of TUs, shooting as dice rolls instead of openxcom bullet path simulation, “combat encounters” instead of free-range enemies, items/abilities as cards to play, etc
@mk-fg, No way brotha. Make it a side thing, but not officially. I like that a bullet can hit something else instead of just missing. I really don’t like the new XCOMs for leaving that out.
this looks outstanding! I haven’t heard much of this yet in bigger circles but I’ll spread the word. 🙂
Promising! Let’s hope Julian will pull this through.
How about a new Milestone build? v1.1 or v2.0? It’s been almost 2 years….
Those last 2 milestones would of been amazing.. Floating base and underwater missions.
What’s with the candles and torches on that video? And those aliens with crab-like bodies and human-like faces, ugh… I’d be looking forward to this one if it wasn’t for Mr. Cliche Tropeworthy, the designer. A shame since I’m a big fan of XCOM.
I have many times that I play this great game
