WHERE is Openxcom main pc file
« on: June 25, 2021, 07:36:16 am »
i cant find it i thought it was in builds but no there are a ton for mac and phone and so on but none for pc as far as i can see

i just want the open xcom so i can get a mod or two and try it out but this site feels more like a in joke or a setup that requires me goto another site to get the base file that is required for all the mods available on the site.. my suggestion, make a dedicated section just for the builds with the lastest one at the top. i know i am new but that seems like basic common sense. that aside i think that will help greatly

The dedicated section for the latest build of OpenXcom is here:
https://openxcom.org/git-builds/

Be aware though that there are two versions of OpenXcom.

The original OpenXcom: (Download the Nightlies version it is up to date)
https://openxcom.org/git-builds/

( openxcom_git_master_2021_06_11_1618.zip or openxcom_git_master_2021_06_11_1618.exe is the latest windows version)

And OpenXcom Extended: <Needed for some of the mods, but not all of them>
https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,5258.0.html

( openxcom_extended_v7.0.0-win64.exe is the latest windows version of OpenXcom Extended )

To correctly install either of them you will need files from the X-COM: UFO Defense &/or X-COM: Terror From the Deep games.

If you need the base game's files both of the above games can be aquired from GOG right now for very cheap. (Fortunately they are on sale at 75% off for the next 27 Hours.)

X-COM: UFO Defense
https://www.gog.com/game/xcom_ufo_defense

X-COM: Terror From the Deep
https://www.gog.com/game/xcom_terror_from_the_deep

It doesn't matter if you are using the GOG, Steam or original disc version of X-Com, all will work as only some of the data files are needed.

I also suggest that after installing the OpenXcom version of your choice you apply both the UFO & TFTD Patch to fix a few glitches with some of the base games maps.

The patches can be found here and have instructions included with them (It's just dropping their files in the correct folder.)

Additionally there is a video that acts as a tutorial to install OpenXcom found on Youtube here: (https://youtu.be/L1WUpX9n7gY)
