With the scout quads, and 2x2 units in general, since they occupy 4 tiles on the battlescape any area of effect weapons i.e. explosives will hit them 4 times. So effectively the scout quads take 0.75 * 4 = 3 times damage from any explosives that get through the armour.
Get it, thanks.

You can also try being proactive in either shooting down the enemy craft that spot your hideout for an attack to prevent it earlier. I believe the highwaymen attacks are scouted by black talons and helicopters. Or you can build base defense structures to destroy the attack before it enters your hideout (the bandit attacks can't be intercepted by craft since they approach on foot). The bandit hideout attacks only have about 300 health and base defences do between 50%-150% of their listed damage, so even a single flak tower could destroy it, albeit it's very unlikely.
Problem that it is an early game, august of first year and that particular base was founded less than two months ago. Btw in previous campaign (which was screwed badly even until august), I've already lost in similar way two new-founded bases.

Have there been changes in difficulty settings since N9.7.7? I've started my first campaign since then, and early-game missions (Bring Down the Tower, Small Bandit Camp) and Academy search craft seem to consistently have fewer enemies (3 where there always used to be 5). The same John Silver difficulty as always.

Yes, Demigod Difficulty has been turned off. That setting forces max enemy spawns.

Now that you mention it the restriction seems silly. I don't see any balance reason why players should not get landing warnings. Particularly since hyperwave decoder ability was added from the start of the game in recent versions.

It would make the geoscape clock pointless, thus taking away from the game experience (1 day increment ho all the time, resulting in getting bombed with information like it was tik-tok).

Could you please elaborate what this difficulty is and how is it related to the regular difficulty choices? Does it mean that lower difficulty levels used to spawn the same amount of enemies as higher ones, but now things are different?

1/ It removed RNG, or better said RNG always rolled the maximum.

Lower difficulties still had fewer enemies than higher difficulties though.

2/ It forced spawn even if there was not enough spawn points. Enemies started to just spawn next to their buddies if they didn't have anywhere else to spawn.

Met a shapeshifted droid on some humble passenger vessel today. It was so... cute, though cruel. Strong feelings. Almost like crys for first time. Bravo to the author.

uhhh cannot wait for it!

[[...]]
The reasons why I like the RCF more:
  • Its cheap
  • You can buy it quickly
  • Its accurate
  • It ignores 25%! of the armor

Hey, but  that's not written in the bootypedia page!(Here) Oh i always neglected it... :'( please in the next update put that in !!

I have the impression that "not very effective" basic SMG (and of course its spikey upgrade "for idiots") is OP as hell among all 1-h early weapons with comparable clip power. It has insane 8x power in automode, and way too decent accuracy and range for 1-h smg. And it is available very early and cheap to buy. Much late BM Light SMG is hardly much better, and all light pistols up to Black Adder becomes an useless junk for any soldier with 75+ firing. Ultimate weapon of mass destruction for little army of untried lokknaars. Though not so atrocious as it can be when armed with fucking scorpions, but it is different topic.

It's good but I wouldn't call it OP. All lesser pistols becoming obsolete is realistic because they are just garbage. Contemporaries of the smg have other things to offer like higher damage, higher accuracy, or damage multipliers that favour other races like spy pistols for catgirls.

the basic SMG is decent as an alternative to the Shiny Niner and other basic civilian-tier pistols. it fills the same niche for both fast scouts, reaction spam, and meleetroop sidearms.
the spiked SMG and holo-spiked SMG are utility sidearms for heavy melee troops, for example paired with a bardiche or spear. in this role it's a firespreader or armorstripper as well as a melee capture tool. so despite the mediocre performance all around it still has good utility for its inventory space.
also, technobarb commendation

I started a new N10 game after a run from N1. I see this game has evolved allot. Nice work Dioxine!   8)
I like the early game where you gave to be strategic with the amount of ammo for Little Bird. The whole progression with Ranks is a nice idea. It gives you the ability to do it on your own pace.
Looking forward the get the Aurora end for this run. I ended up choose the Aurora path soon because I was getting bombarded with missile strikes. The first 2 I was able to intercept but after that the missile strikes just hit my base without being detected.
Is it possible to make them more detectable?

Also this time I was able to get scented message 2. Yay!  :D
