The polyps are really embarassing in a first month.
But dont forget, they are not aliens, just animals. Yes, maybe i need to decrease their reaction, but you can just abort mission and try to develop better equipment before encounter them. Like normal craft.
A point of these is to give you uncommon weapon tech, and show you that not all is so easy now. ;-)
