"Know Thy Enemy" from UFO Extender
« on: June 22, 2014, 10:55:32 pm »
Hi, first congratulations on the release of 1.0. Great, great work. I can't stop playing this game and now with OpenXcom... maan. Looking into donating to the project. So happy with it =)

And now to the suggestion (question). Is there anyone who has worked into implementing the "Know Thy Enemy" option mod from Ufo Extender?
Quote
Damage is reduced against targets until an autopsy has been preformed. There is a small chance that a "lucky" shot will do full damage. Explosives and Fire are not affected. The reduction only affects the damage that is applied against a unit's health not armor.

That is a great addition, making the autopsies (excluding the psi ones) giving something to the gameplay and making them actually useful besides giving flavor descriptions. Are there any plan of implementing it or is there already such mod created?

I have ambivalent feelings toward this, since I'm not sure if it makes sense... Most aliens have similar kill zones as humans. :) But still, better to have this option than not.

I found this to add a lot of fun to the game when I tried it a couple weeks ago. I had Sonic Cannons and it was taking like 3-4 shots to kill Tasoths, then I realized I'd forgotten to research their corpse.

It can be kinda difficult when you get an early Lobsterman Ship Attack before you researched sonic weapons or vibro-blades, but in UFO it should be a lot less hellish.

Yeah, I think it's nice addition. It's not necessary for the game to be realistic, it just makes it more fun and gives the autopsies a purpose.

I like the idea, too.

if you need to explain it, add some fluff text about xcom weapons being tied into xcom HUD visors helping soldiers target specific "soft areas" on the aliens, which you don't know about until the autopsy has been performed. (and hell yeah, even helmetless basic-armor xcom grunts wear HUD eyepieces, which you simply can't see because of 320x200 :P )

Yes, as an option, because this is a deviation from the core game :)

+1, would always leave on

Maybe anybody created this mod separately for OXCE?

Relative links:
Alien autopsy damage bonus
Reward for autopsy
"Know Thy Enemy" from UFO Extender

I didn't (knowingly) add any UFOExtender features in OXCE

hm, why? are UFO Extender features are bad ?
or is it better to post into [OXC Suggestions] and not [OXCE Suggestions] about this feature?
or is this feature a paid option?

I could say that at some point in future it will be possible for OXC Extended.

hm, why?

The goal of OXC and OXCE is to replicate the original Xcom, not any fan mods.

Some fan mods are available also in OXC/OXCE, but they are all optional and certainly not complete.

Technically "Know Thy Enemy" feature can be made by any other user? (based on current OXCE build)
Or even if someone wants to make it by himself today - then he have to wait some time for upgrade OXCE power?

I do not understand what you try to say here, without code change no "user" can add features like this.
Change like this will not be added deliberate (like Meridian said) only possibility it happens is as side effect of other changes.

And in this case this should be already possible, y-script have access to research and to aliens units, combining both you could allow
more damage for aliens that was already researched.
