Aspect Ratio [letterbox] in options
« on: May 07, 2014, 12:10:06 am »
The letterboxed option should maintain the current aspect ratio when cycling possible resolutions. There should be an aspect ratio reset to put it back to default (16/10).

Most people hate math entirely too much to consider that the original resolution was 640x400 and then extrapolate that 1280x720 would squish/disalign pixels and 1280x800 would not.

The whole point of the letterbox option is that it'll maintain the ratio regardless of your resolution, what's the math? ???

yeah, letterboxing is there to maintain the original game ratio to avoid stretched pixels after scaling, nothing more

It only maintains ratio when dragging scaling, and only in the event that you started with a multiple of 16x10.

When you have a non 16/10 resolution and select letterbox, mouse resizing uses black bars to maintain the current aspect ratio.

Furthermore there are no 16/10 resolution in the supported resolution arrow list (640x400 isn't in the cycle), arrowing cycles through all aspect ratios. Black bars are used in those resolutions but the pixels are still F'd, I guess that's a bug though.

Following resolutions are offered:
640x480
800x480
800x600
1024x600
1024x768
1280x720
1280x768
1600x900

Following resolutions are 16/10:
640x400 (vanilla res x1)
720x450
800x500
960x600
1024x640
1120x700
1152x720
1280x800 (vanilla res x2 - My Favorite)
1440x900
1600x1000
1760x1100
1920x1200

The resolutions are provided by SDL, which means it's the resolutions reported by your own system.

If pixels are non-square even with aspect ratio scaling on, then it's an issue with your monitor/video card settings.

2560x1600

;)

Like what? a PSX-style background image?

I don't think that will work out, because it would have to work for many different resolutions with different sizes and scaling.

I loaded the latest git build and this still hasn't been changed so: "Rise Thread, rise and terrorize the living mwahaha"

Resolution options are still the same non-16:10 ones and the letterboxed option is still useless.

There's only one way to get a resolution that is a multiple of 320x200, enter it yourself.
