Surfing mission gear list?
« on: October 29, 2019, 05:13:27 am »
Is there a list of usable gear for the surfing missions posted somewhere? So far I've figured out that knives and tasers are usable

thereĀ“s an item category "surfing gear" that is on usable items on info button in ufopedia, so you can go through all items and make a list yourself...
IMO there should be a list though.
small pistols work too, best is spy pistol.

No. They work only for 'industrial' and 'ski' missions.
Among all long-range lethal weapons only a crossbow can be equipped on surfing missions.

not even that? damn...
can we at least get bullet proof surfboards? kinda like the xeno shields...
going in speedos with crossbows against properly armed cult guys is kinda expensive on replacement costs on the long term...

Just make an ambush near the door in the backroom of initial house with dogs/guys-with-machetes, and it will be fine for the first turns.
After a few kills grab fallens' weapons and shoot for your pleasure  ;)

This. It also helps if the mission is done at night. However, although flashlights are usually an advantage, special care is needed in this mission with any flashlight left on the starting tile, as it may lit the whole room, and thus negating the dark cover. It's best to put them in the back room, toss them out of the house as soon as possible, or just bring electro-flares.

Why on earth would you do such mission during night? It stays at globus for many days...

Several reasons:
- To avoid reaction fire of pistols against crossbows.
- Sometimes the enemy units spawn too close to the beach house.
- They are not aliens, so the enemy units will always be hampered by darkness. It is not that they use incendiary rounds against the X-Com agents.
- Swimsuit and sunglasses at night look cool  :)

In fact, I usually delay the start so I do my vs Humans missions at night, and my vs Aliens missions at day.

IMO, if the female agent is topless on the inventory screen, their character model should be topless too

Sadly, one sprite for all :)

Unless I make the bra invisible. But it'd look weird, no nipples.

Use Stats For Nerds (hit "INFO" on a weapon's ufopaedia page); weapons have categories/tags on them that will tell you what missions they can be taken on. Weapons that you can take to the Beach should be marked "All Beach Gear".

Options include:
Nonlethal Ranged- Dart Pistol/Rifle, Taser
Lethal Ranged- Crossbow, Flare Gun*
Melee- Machete, Combat Knife, Knife, Shiv, Master's Cane, Golf Club, Baseball Bat, Club, Boombox, Surfboard, Extinguisher
Other- Flashlight, Flare, All healing items EXCEPT Healing Gel

*Technically lethal, as it does 20 incendiary damage with a small radius. It will almost certainly panic the target if you can score a hit. The crossbow does quite a bit more damage though, in good hands.

I've noticed, that last time on surf missions 1-2 of those bastards walking around with primed grenades. When one of them coming into the house and dying under reaction strikes, he blows up all the team. Mission failed, congrats... Seems they became smarter in 1.0.

on fearing of loosing the only half decent ranged weapon there...
why would a crossbow be acceptable beach equipment?
i could imagine a harpoon gun. but a crossbow on a beach? why...?

how about throwing knifes though.
they could be useful and not too obvious there...
