I do not think you have to do any editing from N5 to N6.

Last edit was for L10 to N1.

What you always need to do is ALWAYS make a fresh install. Download the mod from moddb, put in the UFO folder, and copy the config file and your save game. That is it.

A breaking chance was introduced in N6 version, with the new "?cats 4 life?" path: that is to say, if player colpetes the divergin path before updatin to such version there is no problem , otherwise the possibility to have the cats stays forever, so these files are not gonna be compatible for a little more info check here.

Update to N10.1.1.1, there is another path added - alongsidde with a new ending! - it's the ?life is Hybrid? path, to disable it after you chose one already either disable the relative topic or edit .sav file, more details on that here.
