[RESOURCE] Dead Civilians
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:22:34 pm »
So yeah, why civilians do not leave inventory corpses? Because they don't have any corpse pictures. Or they haven't until now. Here, bigobs for XCom civilians:

I never really checked, but if you stun a civilian (or an alien, for that matter), what drops on the floor tile?

I would love to be able to stun a civilian and carry it back in my Skyranger. No more idiot running towards aliens, or just standing there blocking a one square passage and preventing my guys from reaching the alien ready to shoot him from behind (I guess that one I could stun.. maybe with the StunRox/Tazer mod?).

Stunning & carrying civilians is not a problem, they just leave standard unarmored X-Com corpses. One would need to create a simple mod to replace the graphic files... Which I am too lazy to do. Meanwhile I'm adding civilian inventory pictures for those who like to MC them. Maybe this will be added to the Final Mod Pack, I dunno.

The first time you stun them can be a bit of a shock, though. I can still recall that back in the original game I've tried this and watched the scary animation of a dying civilian. And I thought: damn, I've killed him, and he's going to count as killed by my guys, that's double unfair.

Oh man.. you waited almost two months for this  :o

Sorry! Here, I just made a quick mod to make use of Dioxine's sprites. It's attached to this post.

Copy the "CivSprites.rul" file into your ruleset folder, copy the "CivSprites" folder from the resources into your OpenXCom resources. Alternatively, just extract the zip file in your OpenXCom data folder.

Remember to enable the mod in options, then Enjoy!

Glad I could help :D

Dioxine, would you like to upload it to the mod site? It's mostly your work, after all. Or I can do it, and credit you, of course.

Uhh I am too lazy, don't let me stop you :) This is already a part of the Final Mod Pack so I kinda didn't feel the need...

So to clear up the credits - this is not my usual steal & improve :). The female is 100% original work, the male is naturally based on Microprose's sprites but all the modifications are also 100% mine.

Ohh that reminds me that I have promised more civilians to Hobbes... sadly I haven't drawn inventory pictures yet, I only have sprites & corpses. When I do, I'll post them here as well.

Well, I can be your civilian mod keeper if you're up for it. I don't use megamods (I prefer to pick and chose myself) and I'd be surprised if I were the only one.

I can upload this one, and when you have more sprites I'll add them as well. No worries about credits, it all goes to you!

Sidenote: Why does the female corpse not have any blood? Not that I miss it per say, but the corpses in XCom tend to be rather gory whereas this one would be great for a stunned civilian.

I was hoping someone writes a code that allows separate objects for stunned corpses. I can always artistically bloodbath 'em later, while removing blood ain't that easy :) I can prepare a bloodied version in a minute but right now I'm going to town so give me few hours :)
