OpenXCom TFTD MT-32 Music Pack?
« on: June 19, 2014, 07:14:07 am »
And a new release, this time to flex the MT-32's integrated Reverb circuitry, which I absolutely adore.

This is available from the Mod Portal, just like the previous version.

VERSION 2.x RELEASES REQUIRE AN OPENXCOM BUILD WITH SDL_Mixer2. AT TIME OF WRITING THIS IS ONLY THE EXPERIMENTAL ANDROID AND iOS BUILDS.

IF YOUR BUILD DOES NOT HAVE THIS, TRACKS WITH OVERLAPPING REVERB WILL SOUND SLIGHTLY BROKEN ONCE EVERY 2 LOOPS.

I've got Max Reverb uploaded, I intend to have Enh Reverb uploaded in a day or two.

---------------------

Since the Enemy Unknown MT-32 Music Pack seems about done,  I'm turning my attention to TFTD.

Has enough work been done to understand TFTDs music structure, such that I could create a music pack for it?

* Edit: Revision 2 of the OpenXCom TFTD MT-32 music pack is released! Grab it here: Dropbox

Readme:
Code: [Select]
This is revision 2 of my OpenXCom TFTD MT-32 music pack.

The reference music files for TFTD do not include GMWIN and GMLOSE. This is the music for the Victory and Game Over slideshows. Should this naming convention change a new revision will be necessary.

This revision was re-cut from the original MT-32 captures to a 44.1kHz final audio rate, to address issues with 48kHz audio in OpenXCom.

---------------
Install like any other OpenXCom Music Pack:

Extract the contents into <datadirectory>/SOUND, overwriting as necessary.

In Game Options -> Audio, make the following changes:
set Music Format to OGG, or else make sure there are no other GM*.* files in the directory.
Set Audio Sample Rate to 44.1 KHz
---------------

Will the MIDI files help you?

Looks like a decent start, though that doesn't tell me the filenames that OpenXCom will be expecting. Capturing and processing is 99% of the work anyways, and this'll let me get started on that.

We'll probably be following the same filenames as TFTD (if we don't get rid of the need for filenames entirely).

gmsig.mid - Intro
gmtacdry.mid - Battlescape: land
gmtacwet.mid - Battlescape: underwater
gmwaitlo.mid  - Main Menu
gmattbas.mid Alien base assault (first and second part)
gmbigmar.mid T-Leth music (I think)
gmdebgoo.mid Mission Debriefing screen win
gmdebpor.mid Mission debriefing screen loose
gmdefbas.mid X-COM base defense mission briefing
GMGeo1.mid - geoscape 1
GMGeo2.mid - youll never guess...
GMGeo3.mid
GMGeo4.mid
GMGeo5.mid
GMGeo6.mid
GMInter1.mid - Interception (TFTD has 3 intercept options, very nice)
gminter2.mid
gminter3.mid
gmisposh.mid - Aliens win, cthulhu ftagn to all.
gmnewint.mid - Xcom wins, Tleth destroyed.

If you replace each .mid with the captured .mp3/.ogg, OXC/openTFTD should know what to do with them anyway.

I've been curious, where do the win/lose tracks come in if TFTD uses pre-rendered cutscenes for those events? Is there a version that uses illustrated text screens like the first game?

It has both pre-rendered cutscenes and illustrated text screens, explained here: https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Enabling_cinematics_(TFTD)

Anyone have the GM*.MID files with their original file names? My reference has renamed the files, so there's a few recordings where I don't know what filename they should line up with.
https://www.mirsoft.info/gmb/music_info.php?id_ele=MTMyNjc=

I've got the Intro, Menu, Geoscapes and Interception musics all captured. Right now I've got a briefing music playing and I'm trying to figure out which filename it belongs to.

LOL, I'm glad to see my note regarding the GUS and cinematics is still there.

And I've got a problem.

Tune 12, GMISHPOS, is the music that plays during terror mission briefings. I've already captured this.
When you get the 'game over' slideshow, a different music is played, one that is not present in this music archive. What should I name it?

Edit: I'm almost done. All I'm missing is GMSIG (Where does this play?), GMBIGMAR, and GMATTBAS. If there's a separate music for the Victory slideshow, I don't have that either.
I don't want to futz with an editor. Anyone have a late-game TFTD savegame I could borrow?

Doesn't look like there are Victory and Game Over MIDIs, since the Windows version always came with the cinematics. We'll probably have to make up some names.
GMSIG just sounds like the start of GMNEWINT, dunno where it's used.

There's a million savegame editors, but I do _not_ want to grind through several months of gameplay to get to the end-game on DOS TFTD.

Does _anyone_ have an old late-game TFTD savegame?

Here, dunno if it will help but I've attached my save for my last playthough of TFTD, its a battlescape save in t'leth part 2, end turn to progress to part 3.

I also have a modified OpenXcom codebase at home that lets me extract the midis directly from the .cat files if you are missing anything. I used it to make a custom Gravis Ultrasound .ogg set. I actualy spend a couple of weeks playing OpenXcom with the TFTD GM.cat. Ah the nostalgia.

That's very helpful, I've got GMBIGMAR, and I should have any Victory slideshow music in a few minutes(ish). Still don't have GMATTBAS though. I'm guessing that's the briefing for Alien Artifact/Colony attack missions. Can you share a Geoscape save from just before you attacked T'Leth?
