Your X-COM base names

When you start a fresh new game, do you always take a few seconds to think up a good name for your starting base? Or are you like me, you always use the same name for your main?

My main is almost always "Thor base" just to get things going quickly. Then as the game progresses, I try to come up with a new name, and sometimes I'll go into my messy closet and find a good base name because I have all my gaming history stashed in that little room.

So the topic is "What are the names of your X-COM bases?"

I usually use the Greek Alphabet , Alpha, Beta ,Gamma, Delta .....

Used to think of complex names like Kalrhoun or somethnig.  Now I just call em' xcom 1 and 2...  you can easily change names anyway....

I just name them based on location (Europe, etc.) or purpose (Research, Radar, etc.).

I usually name my base by the name of their continent. Twice I preferred using the name of the nearest country I could locate around. And once I named my bases SG-1, SG-2, etc...

I like cheesy codenames with a simple numbering.

Sometimes for fun, I'll build a secret base that I'll imagine nobody else knows about except for myself and the X-COM brothers and sisters who never leave my sight. CFN members won't know in-case they become compromised. I'll build it in Antarctica mid-game as a back-up if I lose all my main bases so we can safely fall back to this one for one final stand. And I forgot the names for these bases I'll always lose before this happens, but you can say this is the base where you and the human resistance fighters will reside in after the aliens have taken full control of the World.

I usually do  badly at naming them only because I ultimately find that I dont associate the name I gave it with where it's actually at.  For example my current game has bases named flashlight, daylight, nightlight, arclight, stoplight, and ghostlight.  The first one was ghostlight so of course I can remember that.  The second was actually arclight, and though I kinda remember it I still have to step in and out of screens to be sure if, for example, I'm transferring stuff between them.  After that I built the rest kinda all at once as radar/intercept bases and the names mean nothing to me.

You know what might help me?  Seeing the name of your bases on Geoscape.  like with a toggle or something so you can turn it off to get it out of the way.  Or I could just always use names like Eurocom, Americom, Asiacom, etc.

Yeah, that's a problem to me too and I like your idea. This way we'll see the names and locations so that should help us memorize our bases.

I like to think up a scheme, like names of Antarctic exploration ships, or as mentioned greek letters, or Roman emporers. Sometimes i'll do a little pun on the region, like "Americ". Currently when setting a base I boot up google earth and find the nearest 'rinky dink' town, like Dourados...

Sounds cool. I've never done it that way. You do actually find some neat names on far away small towns. I'll try it next time

I have a new base name I've been wanting to use, "DungDang TruSo". Named after my boss at work, Tru So means HQ. I put it on Antarctica and as soon as I have money, the base will be used for secret scientific research. In my mind, my boss is in charge of that area, meaning I'm his boss in X-COM, muahahahahahahahahaha!!

My first base is always called X-COM HQ

Additional bases are named after their role and the continent they are on, for example:
X-COM USA (general purpose)
Fighter Base Asia
Radar Australia

although I now name bases by country and purpose, such as SRT, OBS, LAB, and TET.
