The X-Com Files / Re: [submod]X-Com X-Files Resound Mod

As a technical assistant to the author of this mod and having alternative ways to contact her, I inform you that you can use any parts of this mod as you wish, because all sounds used are taken from other old games and other open sources.

Ha, nice i was afraid the mod author would just be not notified of change needed nor could allow someone to do it

I'm just a translator, but I'll notify SupSuper.

EDIT: It's ready!

Hum, in good practice, translator shouldn't be able to review his work.

If There is a line count feature ....it looks like there's 19 lines of text in the page
My eyes are getting bad
Any line count over the maximum display height could just interject a text line that simply says [more] and bump subsequent text lines +1
Something like that
🤷

There is already a scrolling with wheel button, but it's not very obvious in some occasion. We just need to add a up / down indicator when you can scroll to make that better, with a modding property to indicate if it need to be on the right or left may be to allow better placement.

that's a weird cause :o

I'm not sure about French conventions, but I did this for the Polish version.

We have typo conventions clearly defined in books and websites, and quebec (ca-fr) have also a website dedicated to rules about how to translate to french. I try to stick to ca-fr rules for fr translation without being to strict with anglicisms.

I'm french speaker and it seems good for fr-ca too but i will ask a professional fr-ca translator to take a look. Idk if he will check but well, cost nothing to ask, he already gave me advices to translate XCE.

I noticed some typographic errors in fr translation, idk if i can fix them ? It's mostly things like "Game Files" -> "Fichiers du Jeu" that should be translated to "Fichier du jeu" (caps shouldn't follow the translation after the first one)

The term alien cause me some issues. In xcom 1 and 2 it's translated to "alien","extraterrestre" or "E.T." wich cause some coherence issues. So idk if i should change to "alien" which is a more used in modern french.

I don't know who translated it this way, but if you're changing it back, then I'd recommend using original TFTD translation (and not invent yet another own translation).

The change i made is close to that, i just changed some things that evolved in french since TFTD release (alien wasn't in dictionaries in 1995).

I saw some other entries that were badly translated in current state (orthographic, grammatical or typo errors) so i will probably make a full review when i'm done with xce.

A bit of grave digging but :

The translation for gillman is 1) too long, 2) refer to a specific creature when we are talking about a species, 3) is totally out of context : what black lagoon. Cinematographic reference use is correct for pop culture reference, not for obscure references no one will have.

If we were talking about Men in Black or MiB like in XCE, every french speaker know what are Men in Black, but no one have an idea of what the 'Créature du Lagon Noir' is, especialy when it refer to some unknown location never mentioned in the game.

I might try when i finished the first pass on XCE french translation. But my c++ is kinda rusted so if someone more into c++ want to make it...

Totally agree. For android oxce this will be very useful.

Didn't tough about that but yeah it should be a mess on android.

I'm actually working on the french translation of XCF ; i encounter an issue other language may encounter and I heard of modders having issue with this too : If an article is too long, the fact that you may have to scroll for the rest of the text isn't clear or well rendered.

So my suggestion is to add a better handling of this in OXCE.

Problems :

* No indication that you can scroll down
* Last line overlap the frame border

Suggestion :
When on top :

When at bottom :

When in  the middle :

Recap:
* Text rendered below the frame border
* A spacer when you are at the bottom to avoid the indicator to overlap the end of the text

It may need the possibility to indicate if it's rendered at the left or the right of the frame (or may be the exact position). I'm not aware of how ui modding works but i think it might help a lot of modders and translators and allow to write extended texte for ambiance or informations.
