I think that next version shouldn't be numbered 0.5 as it will be finishable game, with all gameplay feature implemented. 0.5 would give false impression, that there are lot of things still to implement.

I'm thinking it should be numbered 0.9, so there still will be place to fix bugs and implement some forgotten functionality (in case that happened) before 1.0.

i'm voting 1.0, because to me at least, 1.0 represents a complete and fully playable game.
the "enhanced and extended" features planned for the next stage feels more like a "2.0" type of thing, and 0.5 sounds like we're only half way done.

I voted 0.9, because I think that 1.0 should be reserved for something at least 99% bug-free, and I think that we will find some more (read: a lot) after the next release, because that's when (regular) people will start some serious play-testing. I think 1.0 should then be released about three weeks after next release :)

I voted 0.9 because even if you can finish the game there is still some stuff missing to be called 1.0

I dont think it should be 1.0 as 1.0 should have some better Resolutions OR a scaler to activate, just what i think anyway :P

After 1.0 > TFTD , Factions ,Crazy Stuff ,Other Graphics , there HEAPS of stuff for after 1.0 , this is just the beginning!

i vote for 0.5, because 0.9 is too optimistic. it's never late to jump on 1.0, but it will be problem to enlarge 0.9->1.0 distance.

I perfer 0.9 and not object 0.5. 

Most player assume ver 1.0 is not only a completed game but also bug free( at least with some minor bugs.

I'd go for 0.9.  If there exist a need for a extra version before 1.0 we can still make a 0.10 in an emergency. 

Edit: Version 1.0 is a complete version of a Xcom game and I think the openxcom must present the community it as a standalone open source game that faithfully represents the original one.  After that is done, the openxcom team can decide what new project they plan to start based on v1.0 for v1.0+. Be it an editor for openxcom, multiplayer or whatever.

0.9 is typically used to indicate a betaversion, betaversion being: (almost) fully functional but not guaranteed stable/bugfree.

There is still room for intermediate versions: 0.9.1, 0.9.2, 0.9.3, ...
