Rulset, division by zero, kablam!
« on: November 12, 2019, 12:18:55 pm »
Hello,

So... I have been enjoying openxcom for maybe about three years now it seems. And I haven't had any challenges with it (minus mods... but thats another story)...

So... I tried to install some mods... it didn't work... the game still worked however. A day or so passed and I was fiddling around in the ruleset as I have for years now... and I tried to load the game and it game me an error message. Oops. I restored the last changes and reloaded the game... now it said 'division by zero error'... so... really oops... I restored a previous version of the ruleset I saved... still the same issue. So... I decided lets go to an old system backup I have from 2018 and simply reload the whole file to see if that does anything... still the same error.

I'm really really really confused now...

Hi

Can you attach a screenshot, a log file, or anything that can help?
Which version of openxcom do you have? Which file(s) did you try to change? Etc.

We know literally nothing about your issue... just that you messed up and don't know how to fix it.

Yeah, modifying that file can easily cause crashes.

If you can't restore it, I'd recommend uninstalling and doing a fresh new install.

I don't have access to my xcom stuff... minus what is already installed. Will I just need to uninstall and reinstall openxcom? If so how exactly should I do that? IF I need to do all of the xcom file... if there really is no other way... I guess I may have to simply buy it again. :'(

You don't need to buy it again. The files are still somewhere in your OpenXcom installation. Back them up before uninstalling.

Bought xcom from steam and then installed it. Then I got the openxcom installer which opened just fine. NOW it seems the older version of my game works even though I haven't done anything to it.

You really should uninstall/delete the old version before installing the new one.
