Has anyone ever tried to get burst mode or full auto for the heavy laser as in ufo extender or is this even possible in openxcom?

Heavy laser: This adds 2 firing modes to the heavy laser. Firing the weapon will cost 50 energy. version 1.31+: Each mode has a recharge time cost.
Burst mode: you select 3 target points, and the soldier will shoot a 5 shots burst (on each and between points). Recharge time: 2 turns.

Full auto: you select 2 points, the soldier will spray the area inbetween with 8 shots. Recharge time: 3 turns.

It is partially possible.

You can set autoShots to 8 or 15 or some other high number, and set your tuAuto to some appreciably high value (probably 50 or higher). This will make all auto shots fire that many shots.

(OXCE+ only)
You can then set sprayWaypoints to 2 or 3 (or more) in order to be able to fire the auto shot across a set of waypoints.

The end result is that you mostly achieve the shot functionality albeit it's called auto shot rather than burst fire or full auto. The only things you can't do are two kinds of auto shots on the same weapon, and spending energy to fire. (as far as I know, anyway)

OXCE allows for configuring all of these on a weapon; you can rename any of the shot types, give aimed or snap modes multiple shots, and have any action cost a combination of TUs, energy, stun damage, or HP.
