Help issue starting Game [SOLVED]
« on: August 17, 2016, 02:31:17 pm »
Downloaded VERSION 0.99A.1

Followed the Instructions in readme  file as per below.

When starting i get the following error

ERROR piratez mod requires xcom1 master
make sure you have installed open xcom correctly

Have looked on the wiki which has no details and haven't found anything on the forum.

any help would be appreciated.

running windows 10 64 bit and installed xcom 1 off steam as per instructions

WINDOWS:
- Unpack the mod. It will create a complete Openxcom_XPiratez folder with all the files that you need; it will contain the correct nightly version and Yankes's & Meridian's custom exe named "OpenXcomExPlus29".
- Copy files from your original "UFO: Enemy Unknown"/"X-Com: UFO Defense" folder to the "OpenXcom_XPiratez/UFO" folder.
- Use OpenXcomExPlus29.exe to run the game.
- Choose "Piratez" as the master mod from the Game Options menu.
- Includes four sub-mods: helmetless/maskless armor paperdoll variants made by Roxis231, the 'naughty mod' (it adds the option for gals to fight in the nude, with proper modifiers; do not enable if you don't like such things) and a fun Star God commander replacement with Dioxine's avatar by Alex_D :)

Ehm, this should really not happen :(

1. Could you try to go into "Options > Mods" and switch from "X-Piratez" into "UFO: Enemy Unknown"... game will restart after you press OK... will it load correctly or still give you an error? If it doesn't give you an error, try to switch back to "X-Piratez"...

2. If the above doesn't help, try deleting the "options.cfg" file provided by Dioxine in the original distribution (don't worry, the game will create a new one). Then configure your options and mods from the scratch.

3. If nothing helps, delete everything and try installing again from scratch.

PS: also, if you are not running as administrator-role user, please extract the archive somewhere, where you have full access... for example on your desktop... it may also be an issue with access rights.

tried your suggestions as  follows

1. When starting OpenXcomExPlus32.exe the game errors during initialisation process before i get to the options menu so cant do this unfortunately.

2. deleted the cfg file but still had same issue

3. deleted it an reinstalled it but still same issue.

Questions

Does OpenXcom_XPiratez_0_99A_1.rar need to be unzipped into a  specific folder?
Do i need to install any additional files?

It's probably a stupid question, but did you do this part?

Quote
- Copy files from your original "UFO: Enemy Unknown"/"X-Com: UFO Defense" folder to the "OpenXcom_XPiratez/UFO" folder.

And if you did, maybe the files are wrong/corrupted? For example, doctored with XComUtil or otherwise altered?

1. No, it can be unzipped absolutely anywhere you like... whereever you have full access rights
2. Yes, you need to put the files from the original game into the "UFO" directory as explained in the readme.txt file in that directory... I will paste it below, just in case

Code: [Select]
Copy all the UFO: Enemy Unknown / X-COM: UFO Defense subfolders to this directory!

After the copy, this directory should contain at least the following items:
  GEODATA
  GEOGRAPH
  MAPS
  ROUTES
  SOUND
  TERRAIN
  UFOGRAPH
  UFOINTRO
  UNITS

the folders are in there  this is the file path where those folders are located
C:\Games\OpenXcom_XPiratez\UFO\XCom UFO Defense\XCOM
I copied across the whole folder straight from the steam install including all files with it.

I copied across the whole folder straight from the steam install including all files with it.

That's the problem then.
As the readme says the UFO folder should contain those directories directly... you have them two subdirectories deeper (\Xcom UFO Defense\XCOM) than you should.

That has fixed it  Thanks Meridian was so sad when I couldn't get it to work especially after reading the awesome review on rockpapershotgun.

Also thanks to Solarius for assisting as well.

Cheers.
