Italian Translation for various mods
« on: August 26, 2014, 02:37:40 am »
I want to make an italian translation for various mods, but i need some help to know how i can do this. I already tried to translate some mods, expecially the "colour armor", combat knife and the shotgun. Combat Knife and Shotgun worked properly, but when i tried to run the game with colour armor, there the problems began. All Ufopedia topics of them had the title "STR_BLUARMOR...." ecc, and descriptions too. That's the problem.
Here a list of the mods i'm working on.
Colored Armors
Combat Knife
Firestorm Restyle
Harvest R0002
Railgun
Shotgun
Sniper Rifle

P.S: Se qualche italiano vuole aiutarmi, libero di parlare nella lingua madre. :D

Maybe you are missing some lines in your rulesets in the "extra strings" section.

... All Ufopedia topics of them had the title "STR_BLUARMOR...." ecc, and descriptions too. That's the problem.

Each item should have a title line for the game to display its name instead of the string.

              STR_BLUARMOR: Blue Combat Armor

Code: [Select]
STR_TASER: Taser pistol
      STR_TASER_CLIP: Taser Shock Clip
STR_TASER_UFOPEDIA: A non-lethal weapon derived from a very recent police design, capable of incapacitating targets up to 5 meters away. While it delivers a less powerful charge than blunt-force stun weapons, its stylish pistol grip grants easy handling, and the range alone makes it a worthwhile asset.

If those are already present, it maybe something else.  You may be using a mod that calls for custom graphics resources... for example buttons in the Soldier Diaries/Commendations Mod.  This mod has a custom executable that uses new buttons, and if you disable the custom rule for the mod, it will render STR_MEDAL  .. etc where the graphics should go.    I would search for any images that might be missing out of the resources folders for the mods you are having difficulty with.  Also search through your ruleset for the items that are rendering "STR_BLUARMOR" etc and see that they are all defined, and are if they are referencing images, that everything is where it should be.

Cheers, Ivan :D

you put the file in your ruleset folder and activate it as a mod (it shoud be called something like "translate_it" in the mod section if you did not rename the file)
OR
you use an text editor like notepad++ and copy the content into the target mod
OR
you post the rulfile in the relevant modthread(s) and the mod creator adds the language data to the mod for everyone (regardless of how you enable it for yourself publishing your translation is always a good idea)

I've a question. If i want to translate more than just one ruleset whith that tool, how can i do this? Put the column of various mods in one file? Or create many files? And in that case, how i must rename them?

the ominous "it" i encounter that often
rarely was "it" explained on the first try many times one had to asking questions like pulling teeth to know what "it" is
