Saving using only the mouse. A request.
« on: June 16, 2013, 08:37:15 pm »
I often play openxcom on a laptop in bed at night (good way to snooze off I tell ya) and atm its winter, so I play with only the mouse, under a thick quillt. I normally have no problem until I try and save my file. It refuses to let me save a file without confirming it with the enter key. Could the following be done if possible to make it eaiser to load?

- a "save game" button in the save game menu.
- double left clicking attempts to save the file.

Using OnScreen keyboard would be fast fix for this :)

User workaround is not a fix.

The other possibility is that double-clicking prompts you if you want to over-ride the save. (This should provide protection for mouses that accidentally double-click)

Yea, was thinking along the lines for that. Nobody wants to stuff up and overwrite a save without permission first ;P

The best fix for this is for you to stop being lazy.

I think it's just as reasonable to make the game easier to play with one hand as it is to make it easier to play with two, which we did when for instance we implemented keyboard controls. Because unlike playing with one hand, for some people playing with two won't actually be an option. ;)

Right, but playing with ONLY the mouse is an entirely reasonable request. :)

keyboard-only openxcom? wow, I'd say that would be a lot of work, considering how much stuff you do with the mouse cursor.

mouse-only, however, would be an important step towards creating a touchscreen-only version of OX... just saying... :D

Given the support for defining keys, shouldn't be so hard to add keys to generate SDL_Mouse events. Could use the numpad and use 7 and 9 as left and right buttons :)

Thanks to the Pandora, you can play without a mouse/touchscreen, using the nubs :)

Yeah joypad-like controls.. even in PSX xcom1/2 was controlled without mouse.
And btw, in usability sake in battlescape mode cursor should move by tiles. if it's over battlescape and become 3d. And by buttons /cells if over buttons panel and inventory.
