Is "Sanity per day" cumulative?
« on: October 02, 2024, 07:29:02 am »
Certain facilities have a Sanity per day listed in "Stats for Nerds".

Does such a facility restore that much sanity each day to every soldier on the base?
Are they cumulative across all facilities in a base?  (So four Living Quarters would yield more benefit in this regard than a single Large living quarters?)

Thanks!

Yes.
No, they are not cumulative. The highest one is decisive.

Interesting. So large living quarters (4 sanity per day) are indeed better than the common smaller variant (3 sanity per day).

This could be the starting point for a new base extension. Some entertaining facility (cinema-gambling-drinking-prostitution you get the idea) for assisting the agents to forget and giving maybe 6 sanity per day. :)

Or a psychosurgery as a cleaner option, with an improved psi variant.

Awesome, thanks that makes perfect sense.

In my opinion, advanced sick bay (5 recovery) provides your main base most bang for the buck once you are able to get it (and you should prioritize getting it for other reasons as well). You can't really get large living quarters into that base (as you have had to expand it one by one). Depending on when you get resources, sometimes you may want to build sensorium (8 recovery) first, but their difference is not so much as to warrant keeping both of them in the long run (given that the space is premium).

For bases that you construct (much) later (when you have more money), large living quarters would indeed be a viable option. But at least I put those only on a research/workshop bases. I haven't usually tried to bother with multiple active assault bases (and thus need for sanity recovery), because you can do everything from one base.

Ah, I missed the sensorium when I wrote my last post. Nice!

Still, the classical sex drugs & rock'n'roll approach feels tempting to me. Maybe offer the base extension of a casino from the very beginning (or depending on sth. like 'basic operations'), giving 5 or 6 daily sanity recover. Shouldn't be too hard to build, maybe 200.000$. In case of a base defense, put an AI-controlled maid (or a male counterpart) there into a back-room with a bed, together with an agent. :)

I know, the last point poses pressing questions. When the maid is there, where the heck is the chief intelligence officer? Maybe his advantage of knowledge told him to flee...

I’ll second that idea. I’ve been capturing maids and bikini babes and dispatching them in my different bases to entertain my soldiers, researchers, engineers, and to give belly rubs to my xcom doggies too.

Well this is purely for roleplaying purposes of course, but it’d be fun to actually farm maids and bikini babes.
