don't know if this may be useful, but here we go:
New Weapons Mod is a mod maded by Chris82 that introduces the following:
Pistol -> Machine pistol
Rifle -> Something between Rifle and Shotgun
Cannon -> Grenade launcher (HE, I and Stun)
Auto-Cannon -> Vindicator Minigun with belt-ammunition, incredible firerate, but lousy aiming...
Rocket Launcher -> SniperRifle (uses the Rifleammo, but here you just can't miss...)
Laser-guns -> Stay laser-weapons. But the Heavy laser is now able to cut 'everything', but sucks at aiming. (Main use is tin-opener for ufos...)
Heavy Explosives -> Are now really explosive

There you will find some screenshots, but the downside is:
it will work porperly only with a vanilla verison of UFO: enemy unknows. It needs to overwrite some of the original data of the game, as a result weapons are "detected in the game" but some not shown properly, here' some screenshots of mine, taken with openxcom 1.0:
