Open Feedback / Re: Why doesn't TFTD have more sophisticated data patches?
« on: September 02, 2018, 11:47:13 pm »
oxc works around the missing floor tiles by adding the floor from BLANKS on level 0 where no floors are present.
this takes place at an engine level so it doesn't need to be addressed in the patches
I see so I suppose that making a merge of the OCX fixes and vanilla xcom fixes would be unfeasible, OXC seams to work around everything already. :'(

I'm aware, that's kind of what I meant by "this site's data patch". There are still errors however, such as missing floor tiles, OXC doesn't work around those does it? The patch I linked was an extension of the OXC data you linked but I noticed it was no longer developed.

In some respects this is an extension to my previous topic but exclusively directed towards the 2nd game this time, why doesn't TFTD have more sophisticated data patches compared to UFO? I've found this old patch that's based on this site's data patch but there has been no fixes since 2016. Is this because TFTD is less liked compared to UFO?

I hope I'm asking this in the right place. I'm doing research on the data files and their versions and I'm curious as to exactly what are the differences between the plain old combo patch and the universal one here on this site, besides inclusion of fixes from official patches?

Builds & Ports / Re: PowerPC Mac Support

I have one other question before I attempt to build. Does OpenXcom absolutely require clang to build? Because I don't think that's available on PowerPC, at least not without Linux.
[Edit:] As it turns out, clang is available on ppc, however it's very limited as it was never optimized for PPC. Anyone know how I would convert the build instruction to work with GCC? Also sorry for taking a while to respond. Life sometimes gets busy, and you think "oh I'll checkup next week". Then "next week" turns into next month.

Perhaps it's an issue with older versions of OpenGL. OpenXcom officially supports Lion & later, & Lion uses OpenGL 4.0 if I'm not mistaken. Snow Leopard has OpenGL 3.0 & Leopard has 2.0, so such issues are understandable.

Thanks for the info. I finally got my account setup after contacting an administrator using the method you described.

Because I'm a PPC Mac user and I haven't been able to (successfully) build OpenXCOM on my Mac yet, I've resorted to running it in the DOSBox based Boxer application. Recently I've been looking to mod x-com with a few of the dos mods available on StrategyCore's website. Of course I'm not exactly the type of user who just installs several completely incompatible mods, breaking my game & rendering it useless. So I decided I'd make an account at StrategyCore to ask the mod creators a few questions. There's only one problem with that, I made my account 3 days ago and still not activation email. I guess I'm basically asking "is it normal for StrategyCore to take this long to send an activation email", "If this is unusual is there a way to contact the admins for help with this issue", and "If there's no other way do you think I could ask you guys my questions about these old dos mods"?

Homebrew actually never supported anything below 10.6, but there is a fork called "Tigerbrew" that 10.4 onwards, intel & PPC. I usually use Macports, but the time I do use Tigerbrew it does seem to work well. It's a shame I cant use my favorite IDE, XCode, but apple seems to use a different format for their new xcode project files. I'd be lucky to get a XCode 4 file to work, let alone something newer.

Anyone know if it would be possible to compile this project on a PPC Mac? I could easily play both x-com ufo & tftd via the DOSBox based Boxer app, but it's not very fast nor can I find mods that support dos these days. If you have any advice for compiling, please tell me.
