Since getting the updated version, I notice there's some things in Advanced Options that I can't change anymore. For instance I can't adjust explosion height up or down anymore. The option is still there, but it's purple and I can't change it. Any idea why that is?

On the Osiron beach missions there are generally surfboards scattered all over, I don't think you loot them and it's intended for them to not be available anywhere else. I think they are just supposed to be thematic, cause it's a beach mission.

Going outside of the guest house to get one will result in death though, seeing as you generally start off surrounded by multiple guys with guns

You can usually take the Spy Pistols with you, including on the beach and ski missions.

I didn't know that about the flags. How do I view their inventories at the base? I tried pushing M in the inventory screen right before a mission, but it didn't do anything.

Are there any mods that allow you to choose where on the map your agents land/park? It's kind of obnoxious and stupid that my professional black ops unit decided to land their helicopter directly in front of the gates of the enemy compound, or directly in the center of a giant throng of enemy soldiers/suicide bomber zombies/whatever. Sometimes you end up completely screwed because of the random, nonsensical placement of the vehicle, and other times the random placement of the vehicle makes the exact same mission a total cakewalk.

For instance, I just had to give up on a Red Dawn HQ assault after killing +60 enemies, because of my 8 guys, 1 was dead and 6 were incapacitated, and the aircraft was placed in such a way that the enemy could throw grenades and high explosives into the aircraft from several different angles, and it was impossible to exit the aircraft without drawing more grenades and high explosives.

Then, when I reloaded a save and tried the exact same mission again, I breezed through it in less time than it took me to give up on the first try, didn't lose anyone and only had a single agent wounded. The reason it was so easy was 100% because of where on the map the aircraft happened to land.

I guess they did it so that the APC's wouldn't be overpowered, but as it is there is NEVER any chance to use them, they might as well not even be in the game.

Does anyone else find them to be essentially worthless due to their range? Even the plane-mounted ones have such a short range that I have never actually been able to use one. It's too bad, because the APC seems a lot better suited than the helicopter or dragonfly for attacking some of these clowncar-esque cult bases with dozens and dozens of LMG's and automatic rifles.
