Other games worthy of engine recreation
« on: May 16, 2010, 10:13:32 am »
I'm not a programmer myself, but there are some good old games that I dreamed somebody would have recreated an opensource engine for. X-COM series (EU and TFTD) are my primary concern, yet it seems that I'm kinda Microprose fanboy, so my other favorites are Master of Magic and Master of Orion 2 titles. Of course I would not dare to ask SupSuper to undertake such an endeavour, but it would be nice to know that there are people who share my passion for those old goodies  ;)

You can find more such projects here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine_recreation

And here:

There is project for master of orion 2 which unfortunately looks dead:

I knew about those links - that's why I'm following all such trends, but thank you anyway  :)
It's really a shame that MoO2 engine recreation went silent after all - I had so much hope for it  :'(
The same goes to all Master of Magic recreation attempts. None of those projects survived past "initial enthusiasm" phase.  OpenXcom seems to be my last best hope remaining.

Games like that are a bitch to reproduce I imagine, although I am particularly fond of MOM. :D

Yeah, me too  ;)
When I become more proficient in programming, and if by that time there are no ongoing MoM recreation projects - I am going to start one myself. Hopefully  8)

I'm half tempted to have a go at Covert Action
https://www.abandonia.com/en/games/139/Covert+Action.html

Watched several people do "Let's Play"s of them, got me playing it a bit, but the controls are sometimes quite awkward, and it would benefit from a built in notepad to jot things on
