Hey guys, I've googled and searched but none of the solutions posted work for me.

I've installed the game, Steam version. And am using the OpenXcom windows installer.

I can't for the life of me find the MODS folder, or where exactly to create it.

I'm running on Windows 10.

Please help.

You can try this:

1) Uninstall the game, including any local settings, saves etc.
2) Reinstall the game (preferably on a non-system drive, and certainly not in any Windows-suggested folder). Don't run the game yet.
3) In the game's topmost folder, create a folder named "user".
4) Run the game. From now on, it should use the "user" folder for all local files, instead of some eldritch location in Program Files or wherever.

That happened to me too. I found out that you have to run the game once for that folder to appear. Once you've ran the game once, the folder should be in Documents\OpenXcom\mods\

You have been giving this path for years.
Yet for years I have been using another path:
C:\_GAMES\OpenXcom_Ex\user\mods\...
Of course, this path is similar to yours but it is more accessible...  :)

Is it serious, Doctor?

Yes, both paths can be used.

My path is the officially supported one. And it should always work without any problems.

Your path is alternative. It usually works, but sometimes it may not. For example if you create that "user" folder in Program Files or any protected location. It has happened a million times already that people had issues with it, thus we recommend using the first approach and leave this one only for users who "know what they are doing".

PS: also, you can't use both at the same time

Thank you for your reply!  :)
I never use the "Program Files or any protected location" folder for progs or games.
So I am reassured!  :)
