How to Install modes on X-com Files 1.2 (Solution included)
« on: February 11, 2020, 04:51:26 pm »
..../"open X-com Directory"/user/mods/X-com Files/Ruleset
Put your mods there, the files must have .rul extension.
https://youtu.be/V5-pQhipM64 here's video guide.
I figured some folks might have problems just like i did so decided to post it.

I would like to add an official response that this is completely wrong, both technically and content-wise.

========================================================================
===  THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED BOTH BY OPENXCOM DEVELOPERS AND BY XCOMFILES MODDER ===
========================================================================

1/ First of all, the standard xcom1 mods are NOT COMPATIBLE with XcomFiles and the modder consciously decided to change the mod distribution, so that you CANNOT activate them. In best case, you get undesired results (like the improved base mod you showed for example... which makes the game basically unplayable because it removes required facilities like Xcom Headquarters, etc.)

2/ Second of all, the method of the mod installation you showed is also completely wrong. XcomFiles supports normal modding just like UFO (or TFTD or PirateZ, etc.). Each (sub-)mod should be in a separate folder (under "/user/mods/" if you're using portable installation) and activated/deactivated via GUI. You should not change anything directly within the "XcomFiles" folder.

@all: please do not do this (or suffer the consequences)

Thank you, Meridian.

I'd like to add two more things:

1) The X-Com Files mod has been made a Master specifically to prevent this. Vanilla mods either will NOT work correctly or are already incorporated in the mod, which is something I've stated repeatedly but of course, to no avail.

2) if you want to repurpose a mod to work with The X-Com Files, you should edit the metadata file and change "xcom1" to "x-com-files". Do this only if you know what you're doing.

I agree 1000% with Meridian and Solarius!
The method you describe is far-fetched. If you want to add Mods there is a way that is 1000 times easier and more reliable... depending on the mods you want to add.
Thanks to this XFiles update I have removed some mods that I thought were useful... but which are actually useless or even dangerous!
Thanks Solarius for your pack !
