Research question
« on: August 06, 2018, 03:32:33 pm »
Is it possible to put any research on an endless cycle? The meaning is in obtaining bonus points. Type of writing "doctoral dissertation." :o

No.

If you want an endless point generator, give one craft endless fuel (or speed < 100) and/or higher score and just let it patrol forever.

Does patrolling give points to X-com?

No, it doesn't... was worth a try ;-)

Anyway, you can probably make an endless research using requirements (not dependencies)... similar to how you can research an alien leader forever before you research alien origins. But you'll have to start research manually each time it finishes.

Here's a different approach (not sure if works though):

1) Create an alien base that is invisible (empty icon) and generates positive score each day it is active
2) Create a alienMission unlockable through specific research that generates that alien base

There's no reason that the point value on the deployment can't be negative and therefore create positive score for the player - that idea should work!

You could even make the base visible and give it a map that looks like the x-com base, then make "dummy aliens" that are invisible/invincible just so you can visit the base and watch civilian scientists wander around.

Or another idea: instead of an alien base, the alienMission creates an invisible/visible terror site that gives positive score and disappears after a number of months, instead of the never ending base

You can still click on mission sites if the marker is invisible and you would have the terror site alert message popping up, but you could probably use this to tell the player that it's friendly research for points going on.

You could place the marker in the middle of the oceans where no player will boldly click ;)

And in case they do, then add the message about the friendly research  :)
