Youtube videos
« on: September 08, 2012, 09:29:22 am »
People in comments are suggesting more youtube videos. I too think it's good idea to have videos showing new features.

It would be great if someone could make video in such style (with commentary):

I have considered doing a commented video or even a livestream to get more attention on the project, I just worry me talking might just scare people more. :P Let me know if you'd be interested.

It would be great to have more youtube video's. It's the place where video games become popular these days, with let's play videos or reviews on youtube. I made a few silent ones with new features on previous releases. I recorded one with my voice and it was scary, so I never put it online, lol, but I think everyone has that the first time. But if you are brave and do one with talking, people realise there is actual people working on this project :)

Go for it SupSuper :D If you afraid how you sound, you may record some sample video and add it to youtube as hidden (only ppl with link can see it) and put link here or send pm to couple of persons ;) Then we can tell you if you can go public ;)

Was all set to make a video tonight but for some reason Openxcom refuses to play music or sound effects in my NEW Win XP virtual machine, the windows itself has no problem with sounds , just openxcom has a issue ( same files work perfect in another VM i use for my modding). So i thought i would boot up in windows , rebooted system  , viewed GRUB , no sign of windows anywhere ( haven't used it in 2 years) , i do know its still on the hard drive , i can see the files........ Some things are never easy :P

I'd suggest checking your options.cfg to see if OpenXcom muted itself at some point.

The Config file looked ok, couldn't see any reason why it would be silent so i just renamed it and let openxcom create me a new file, This gave me sound but that created a new problem.
In game the music TEMPO speeds up and slows down depending on what i am doing on screen , i figured that would sound really crap on a Youtube video so i left the sound effects on only.

OK must of made 50 movie tonight , hopefully i can piece one good final product together by next week, really not sure about my voice on it :o   This Video was focused on my Expanded Terror Map but i plan on recording some INSTANT BATTLE ones also next week and just start pushing the project , the next setback for me will be finding some video editing software - i don't think i own any :P

FYI: i have started work on some Support tutorial to go with the information on the MOD site, first one is up ( as long as the copy right claim doesn't bite me in the bum)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=7ErO2K-TqnE

Once again , no voice , it just not easy to talk about something "Freestyle" and i am too lazy to right a script of what to say in advance  :P

It's hard to follow what you're trying to do without any narration, you should at least use subtitles.

Also, I've settled on making an OpenXcom video after 0.4.5 (which should be out within this week), since it's very hard to work on both at once. :P

Volume was really loud for me (Yes, I did turn my volume down, still, rattled the windows for a second  ;) ), but looked good. I agree with SupSuper about making it more obvious what you're doing, and maybe "why" you're doing it too.

Good job!
