[DONE] [Suggestion] Movement restrictions on bulky armor
« on: August 02, 2017, 09:17:51 am »
Request (Dioxine): armor flag that disables running and/or kneeling

Code: [Select]
armors:
  - type: STR_BULKY_ARMOR
    allowsRunning: false
    allowsStrafing: false
    allowsKneeling: false

Kneeling was allowed only on soldiers (disabled on HWPs and aliens)... now you can disable it also on some soldiers, depending on what armor they wear.

Strafing and running was allowed only on 1x1 units and HWPs (disabled on 2x2 units and HWPs)... now you can disable them also on some 1x1 units/HWPs, depending on what armor they wear.

what are the limitations on not being allowed to run or strafe? half the TU on movement and turn?more TU to turn?

Suggestion for another flag: permanentKneelBonus
If true the armor always gets the kneel bonus of a weapon even when standing.

Possible use:
Power armor that can operate heavy weaponry to full effect without needing to kneel. Heavy weaponry meaning guns that have an above average kneel bonus like machine guns or mortars.

The parameter could also be a percentage of the kneel bonus, so permanentKneelBonus 50 would give you half the kneel bonus when standing.

Limitation is simply that you can't run and strafe at all.

How about just increase the aim by default and allow the weapon to be carried only with power armor (strength/carrying capacity limitation).

You need servo-motors anyway if you want to carry and fire from heavy weaponry (unless you're Arnold or Sylvester).

Then we need a penalty to aim when carrying too heavy weapon.

The penalty is missing TUs... which will basically prevent you from using the weapon... assuming a non-superhero soldier would start their turn with 30-60% of their TU and firing the gun would cost 50-90% of their TU.

The point being, heavy weapons without servo-motors... don't work.

Yes, i agree. If we speak about really heavy weapons. Like hand-held mortar.
But kneel bonus or one hand debuff elimination can be useful when carrying something like 50cal. machinegun, barret, etc.

Running and strafing are alternative movement methods, a feature of OpenXcom.

Aside of kneeling bonus, there is other useful feature: ignore debuff of wearing two-handed weapons in both hands. Like super steady arm.
