Hello to all, and thank you for openxcom. Don't know if it is even possible to do but if anyone can do it, the openxcom community can surely pull it off. My idea is this. Openxcom 2 would consist of the merging of 3 games, openxcom, opentftd, and Harpoon from 1989. Harpoon(or similar engine) would replace the geoscape. The way it is now the strategy of the geoscope consists only of you watching the earths shadow go round & round till a red dot appears, then you make a yellow dot emerge from a blue square to chase the red dot around till it gets close enough, then a very simple mini game appears to shoot down the ufo. With a game like harpoon the geoscape strategy becomes almost infinite. Setting up air combat patrols, E3 sentry for radar, groups of destroyers, frigates, helicopters and submarines to hunt down uso's. When you start a campaign you pick one of the preplaced bases already on the map. Unlike the original game you cannot expand your main base. You hire various countries to do your research and manufacturing. High tech countries will get it done quickly but cost a lot, low tech countries are cheap but take a long time to complete. There are air force and naval bases around the map that are already in place with their various amount and types of units. Those have to be replaced and reinforced with the money you get from the nations and from selling alien artifacts you don't need. At the start you will lose a lot of units because the alien tech is so much higher. When you buy gear it gets shipped on container ships or loaded on transport planes which then have to be escorted and protected.

Alien will attack your bases around the map, if the fighters and anti aircraft units fail then a ground battle ensues with 10 random rookies loaded with whatever your current research level is at. Would be an above ground map with runway, hangers, storage, control tower, barracks, fuel tanks and trucks, along with 1 or 2 landed ufo's. If you fail that base is lost, you would have to send the skyranger to retake the base. If it is your main base, you lose. Once a ufo or uso is downed then X-poon makes a special save and shuts down and either openxcom or opentftd gets loaded up with the special save and it's off to the battlescapes which we all know and love.

Marketing has voiced some concerns about the name, but I like the idea.   ;)
