How about a chance of a ship being damaged over 50% injuring the pilot? This could be a neat effect, like they can still fly home, but need medical attention because the bent up metal, broken glass, or burns inside the cockpit.

Yeah, that'd be cool and cinematic. Plus, consoles explosions!
