Allow player to sell dead human bodies
« on: December 17, 2016, 11:26:58 pm »
We must combat world hunger!

Also, this might give some extra stimulus for killing rather than stunning all - too much temptation to bonk everyone that ins't robots/drones/ratmen/ninjas/drifter/highwaymen on the head.

There could be a lot of in-game reasons too:
- Sell people the bodies of their loved ones for burial.
- Food for people, "people" and animals.
- Bones can be useful, too.
- Organ traffic!
- Life support resources.
- Rip out cybernetics or implants of value!
- Cup 'n ashtrays. Thanks to the Piratez, now you can drink wine on your enemy's skulls!

I'm thinking 10% or 20% percent of ransom value?

Not sure if corpses should be pillaged for anything remaining (like robbery but with corpses) or flat-out sold.

You already can do that! ... sort of.  Things like durathread mesh, force circuitry, etc. are all the recovered 'corpses' of enemies you killed.  If you pick up a corpse in battlescape, you can define a different item to be returned to you in geoscape; this is how you get rare earth elements from your dead hands, or grav units if they were in some flying armor.

You can also eat some enemies, which I think is a step in your direction. :)

So the "corpses" I was supposed to be getting turn into materials?
I meant the corpses of the dead, not just materials from them.

You can do that?!

Yep. The Deep Ones (of various species) are all edible; as are most animals, including the animals used in terror missions.

The materials *are* the corpses.  In battle, all of the corpses you see are an item defined on their respective armor rulesets called 'corpseItem.'  When you end a battle, all of the corpses that are recovered check their respective armor ruleset definitions for a line item called 'corpseGeo,' and are recovered as whatever that item is.  For mutants in most armors (including your gals), this item is Rare Earth Elements.  For low-level Guild, the item is Durathread Mesh, and so on.  In order to get both a corpse (say G.O. corpse) and a material item (the Durathread Mesh), you'd need to add for each corpse item a manufacturing project to produce both.  In other words, from that dead G.O. in the battlescape, you'd get the item Dead G.O., which you can spend a few runt-hours to get one G.O. Corpse and one Durathread Mesh.  This is rather tedious and generally a waste of the player's time for little benefit, as the corpse would only be good for selling and just a measly amount at that when you could have had your runts keep producing Grog.

On the other hand, Deep Ones and many other animal-like enemies get an extraction manufacturing option from their corpse, giving something that can be turned for a profit (cooking the tasty Deep One meat), or something to be turned into a useful item (Chitin Plates from Lobsterman => scale mail armor), after certain research is done.  This isn't a waste of the player's time, because it is a less common enemy that turns a better profit than just Grog, but you have to make sure you have the storage space for all these corpses.

Nah. If anything, I'm considering adding dead pirate bodies for armor recovery/burial/(cyborgization).
They're not so piss-poor to be forced to traffick in dead bodies or cannibalise them, at least as far as their own are concerned (this definition stretches to basically every sentient being they consider communicable, or, as one article puts it, honorable; xeno scum, animals and beastmen are free game). Also disrespecting the dead is inviting a bad curse that had condemned many a pirate to a fate worse than death :)

I'd make an exception for taking skulls, but it's mechanically impossible - you'd have to do in combat, since riddling enemy with bullets or capturing them and THEN beheading is hardly honorable.

What about reviving?  You might need a cold room to keep the corpse from going bad, and eventually a cryo storage or stasis storage.  But being able to eventually restore recovered corpses could be fun, though there would probably need some more penalties beyond the negative score and time needed to do it. High cost and skill loss based on what sort of storage you're using appeal to me.

Maybe if the year was 9999... but it's only 2601.

Then cloning and brain uploading.  It wouldn't be an early tech, likely requiring Reticulan assistance, and you'd need specific rooms ready before the person you intend to clone dies, but I think it would be fun, assuming it's even remotely possible to do with the game engine.

But you'd need to keep a spare brain to have something to upload the brain on :) Maybe as an item you need to carry? :)

Being able to put the brain into a cyborg body would be fun too, maybe as a middle ground before you figure out how to clone an actual Uber.
