Increased reactions
« on: November 29, 2016, 11:23:16 pm »
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows in what file the reaction mechanic is layed out?
Or maybe a mod that increases the reactions.
This is mostly for personal need, (mostly to stop those black aliens from charging my units without them firing once).

Any help will be most appreciated :)

Just look into the definition of soldiers so you can tweak their starting stat and increase reactions this way?

You can find a definition of all the important terms here and can create a mod to adjust things. The best reference would probably be the "RPG class" mod.

If you want to read up on the mechanics of how reactions are done, check this article on the wiki out.

You can also make a simple mod to increase the starting stats of your soldiers - look in the OXC ruleset files (should be in (pathtoOXCfolder/standard/xcom1 (or xcom2 for TFTD)), and make a copy of soldiers.rul into a new folder in pathtoOXCfolder/user/mods.  Edit the stats in that copy to your heart's content, then turn on the mod in the options menu (should be named after the folder you created in mods).

Increasing Reactions itself won't help much if you spend all your TUs.

the general rule is: the more TUs you have, the better chance to use your Reactions. You can have good reactions, but if you only reserve enough TUs for one shot, you probably won't make it before a Chryssalid has its way with you.

Hey all, thanks for the reply :)
I want to change the ruleset in the files, however i cant save the edited file as a .RUL file. notepad(++) doesnt seem to recognise .RUL extensions and i cant change it afterwards.

Anyone knows what i could use to edit the .RUL extensions?

The extension doesn't matter, Notepad++ can open and save a file with any extension - after all it's just text. So I have no idea what you mean. Maybe your file is read-only or something?

the game files are a .RUL extension, but notepad can only save in .txt extension (and other extensions but not .RUL)
so the game might not recognise the .txt as a gamefile.

The game will not recognize a .txt as a game file. Notepad++ should allow you to save to a .rul. Regular windows notepad might not, but you can just save it as a .txt, then rename Whatever.txt to Whatever.rul and it'll work. Just make sure Windows is not trying to be clever (and failing) and actually creating Whatever.rul.txt.

So they'll fire, miss and the black aliens still zombify your soldiers? ;)
