I don't mind Anime per say, but I do find it is used too excessively. If we are here to brainstorm for replacement images (which isn't a terrible idea, I think we could probably move the anime pictures and excessive nudity to the nudity mod itself) I would suggest that a link is posted to the image we wish to replace and then we can all look for a better replacement. Hopefully that would reduce the manpower required to change such images, assuming that you wish to change the images at all, Dioxine.

But the excessive anime and random nudity is half the fun!  The other half, naturally, is saying ARR! a lot, among other piraty things.  The next fun half is the combat and triumphing over very long odds, and the last half is the one where we admit that pirates aren't very good at math.

For me, the combat, and scavenging nature of the game is where the fun comes from (as well as finding new gear and raiding UFOs or special ships). The whole anime thing just detracts from that mood IMO. Again, my suggestion is to move the anime and nudity stuff to the designated nudity mod, it should be an option to play with it, not a have to play with it thing. But I'll step off my soap box, as I may be on the minority on this one.

But the Piratez slogan is: Suffering awaits. And Boobs.

You'd lose half the slogan with that idea! I'm not particularly a fan of anime (and the fairy outfit is a bit ott even for Piratez imho. I'd rather a sailor moon outfit as I can't picture even a gal believing in "boobdo" dressing like the fairy), but hey, it's not like you have to use that outfit either..

(I dislike not having at least one free hand, except in cases like ghost which is purely awesome. So coupled with the crazyness of it, I don't think I'll be using fairy outfit, but I would consider it if it had just the star attack)

She has little say in the matter, since it's not clothing, it's polymorphic tech with an intelligent core (the 'magical girl', which is quite obviously creation of the 'Well-Wisher'). Also, sailor senshi uniform makes little sense, since a) it's a good girl's outfit, and the gals are anything but; b) white is attributed, as the color of death, to the destructor outfit.

The general question of animu/nudity - while I agree that one shouldn't go overboard with this, for the risk of simply boring a sensible player - there is a point when irony changes to homage or fanboyism, and it'd be really childish to pass that point. However, on the other hand, purging the mod off all this stuff would mean betraying the basic spirit behind it. The spirit being, that if you don't want to take it, you will lose out on a good tactical game.

You can call it ideological. I consider it bad that in the current culture, all nudity and eroticism was expelled into the realm of porn, thus vulgarizing it; the basic goal of nudity here is optimism, positive vibe, not stirring base instincts. Likewise, animu was balkanized too. Long ago, productions like Akira or Ghost in the Shell were accessible to anyone; now you're either a serious person or an animu freak; and within animu, there is boring serious and fun silly, too. Why can't we have fun serious?

Sorry, my knowledge of anime isn't up to the discussion. By "sailor moon outfit", I meant "some other recognizable cheeky outfit, like something from the series Sailor Moon", not specifically sailor moon (which your comment sort of reminded me was a specific character, maybe?), or the color white (I was wondering why destroyer outfit wasn't black or more creepy though, so it's good to know it's white because that's the color of death).

Also, aren't fairies with pink wings generally good too, which would mean they don't fit since the gals are anything but? (not that I know of many fairies.. probably just from peter pan and cinderella...).

Fully agree with the rest though, a good balance and fun serious is a great goal to pursue and I am enjoying Piratez because of it. Were it all gory and heavy like actual pirating probably is, it would be much less enjoyable.

Are they girls who don't mind wearing skimpy outfits, while using mind-control powers and exploding people with mind-altering EM pulse stun weapons to drag them to some hellhole to be ransomed or put to slavery? Yeah, that kind of fairy :)
Also I don't want the outfits to be too recognizable, because
1. It's boring to me; sure I steal what I can, but simple copying is boring and leaves no place for my inventiveness;
2. It'd reduce said outfits to bland fandom jokes, which is equally bad.
