Animu s***t
« on: August 19, 2016, 12:15:52 pm »
I'm not a big animu fan myself (though I don't hate it), I prefer old sci-fi movies, but
1. it's a good source of resources
2. it's another thing that can be smeared, dirtied and assimilated!

I don't inherently hate the stuff, and there's some legitimately good ones out there (Akira immediately comes to mind), but the vast majority that I've been exposed to are hamfisted trope parades of cliched schlock and twists that are either predictable, insanely implausible, or straight up lazy writing (Season 1 end of Code Geass which was thrust upon me by a couple of friends at the time), such that it makes me reflexively cringe.

Also using animu images is one thing; employing shitty animu tropes is obviously entirely another. I suppose if it takes on a satirical bent as most things do in PirateZ though, it's not so bad.

Code Geass? I knew I won't like it even before watching a single episode :) People who enthusiastically peddled it to me only reinforced that conviction.

Well, obviously the best animu is Azumanga Daioh. :P

Can't stand 'slice of life' animus; too diabeetus inducing for me. Possibly more that the genre doesn't agree with me than it being actual shit.

As for Code Geass I didn't really like it, but I kept being poked and goaded to do so (with nebulous SG like promises of 'it gets better') until the Season 1 end whereupon no amount was going to get me to continue watching that horrible show.

Whoever told you that is a liar. The show's only saving grace is in it's train-wreck value. It gets WORSE. The only reason you might want to watch it is out of morbid curiosity.

The sad thing is that they were entirely genuine about their love of it. That said, they had least had the decency to admit that the S1 ending was a complete and total 'writer backed into a corner' cop-out.

Well, the To Aru no Majutsu Index series is universally beloved, despite being really, really bad. Especially season 2 and the unfortunate movie. I just don't get this; this is beyond personal taste and the like.

Raillgun is okay even if the main show is a load of garbage.

Yes, Railgun is much better.
Nothing special, but I actually enjoyed it.

The characters are actually likable and have interesting abilities, unlike Touma who's superpower is to drag everyone down to his level.

True.
I don't dislike Touma, or even his abilities. I dislike moronic plot, moronic characters (primarily Index, who's super annoying) and the entire execution of the Cursed with Awesome trope.
Okay, it's not the worst anime ever. But I don't understand how it gets so many positive reviews.

As far as anime in XPiratez is concerned, I always just assumed it was all used ironically.

Raillgun has better fanservice too though.
