Translation – Czech
« on: April 29, 2016, 03:31:02 pm »
Czech translation for PirateZ is available on Transifex site.

I's not easy translate pirate slang to language wihout maritime ancestry, so there are my translations:

Gals ... Děvky
Hands ... Krysy (Rats)
Brainers ... Hlavičky (little Heads)
Runts ... Včely (Bees)
to kill someone ... utopit někoho (to drown someone)
dead body ... utopenec (drowned body)

Please, share with your thoughts :)
I have also made (my first) python script for upgrading translation to new version of rul yml file. (Python v. 3.5.1). It's obsolete now, because of Transifex.

And my questions:
- Why is the old Germany called Blackmarch? It's not clear from bootypedia.
- How to translate 'shippings'?

Edit: updated Czech names mod to ver 0.99J12

Blackmarch originates from Black Forest (Schwarzwald) and a word 'march' in the meaning of 'Marchionate'. Also, no need to replace, we can have these added and accessible through normal language selection.
Shipping - I intend to translate it as 'Kontakt' in Polish, you can try something similar maybe?
Congrats on being first to make a translation ;)

Thanks :)
Blackmarch = Čermark ... Černý les + markrabství
Shipping = Plavidlo

Another question: What is meaning of "Uber"?

Another question: What is meaning of "Uber"?

It's probably a reference to german word "Über", meaning over/above/beyond.
Maybe even a direct reference to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9Cber#In_English

Shipping = Plavidlo

I would translate "Shipping" into Slovak as "Príležitosť", Czech "Příležitost" (English: Opportunity)... or something along those lines.

Příležitost is great!  :)
No one-word for Über, so I have choosen "Íbr".

Well, I totally don't understand the meaning of:
Code: [Select]
1) Dragons might eat you, but they might not.
2) Only Mun Tzu could a Tank and 4 Gals at the same time.
Maybe the 2nd one means: It is almost impossible to defeat 4 piratess accompanied by tank?

The first is a cautionary warning about dragon's as a being of immense power, may eat you or not on a whim and there is nothing you can do about it. In many fictional worlds dragons are an "other" there essence so different from that of mortals that one cannot fathom there intent. Mortals be warned.

The second is a frankly bizarrely framed reference to the fact that a tank takes up 4 slots in a vessels capacity. At least that what i understand it to mean. It doesn't make a great amount of sense in English either.

Yes, spot on in both cases.

Heh! Perfect!  I never had a clue what that Mun Tzu reference was about!  Thanks for decoding that for me!

Yeah, the text is pretty pointless.
Let's just enjoy the picture and forget about it.

Exactly. But poetry calls for constant improvement upon translation, even if perfection is unattainable. Simply stating the obvious would miss all the nuance. That'd be really pointless.

Well, thank you :)

Dioxine, could you update czech localization with the newest file? And rename the file from Piratez_lang-cs79.rul to Piratez_lang-cs.rul. Please.

If there is any newer version, please publish it soon. I will be releasing an unplanned, but sadly needed quick bugfix edition within several days to a week, and I will add the newest translation to that.
