About time of equip submarine
« on: November 18, 2015, 12:16:41 am »
Hello everyone!

Equip submarines may take some time. But uneqiup occurs immediately.

What you think about this?

Putting a weapon on also means testing it and calibrating it and its control and targeting systems to ensure they are combat ready. I'd expect that removing a weapon is a lot faster since it does not involve the same work.

In reality, there are rather detailed manuals for militarily used aircrafts and all their weapon systems. And both will take a lot of time. It always depends on the weapon system itself, whether it's more easy to equip or to dismantle a weapon on a craft. If the mechanics did their job properly, they won't need a lot of testfiring 'n stuff. However, of course, some functionality tests are performed.

Interesting.. I would have expected that taking off the weapon would be "unplug, unscrew" then the weapon is off and the plane is free to be fitted with something else. Maybe after the "unscrew" step, there needs to be maintenance or something done, plus dismantling for storage, but that could be done without needing the plane.

Well, it depends on the weapon system. You can think of it somewhere between changing your tires on your car and changing the engine... It can become as complicated as you want. However, if one would have to design a plane or submarine for frequent changes of the weapon systems, it would probably become more like changing tires, however with a little more emphasis on the security aspect and a little bit more than just tightening a few screws.

Technically the time comes from loading the ammo on the weapon. Clearly when unloading they just drop it on the ground and let someone else deal with it. :P

It's the »let someone else deal with it«-aspect, that makes the thought about time to install weapon systems realistic. It's not just »plug'n'play«. If you want do to these things properly, it will take a few hours. On the other hand, nobody ever maintains the crafts and weapon systems. So I tend to think, that nobody gives as hit about this little aspect. ;-) Otherwise that stuff would have to be checked in regular intervals. And every pilot would welcome that, as the worst thing would be an unexpected defect in a combat situation. But that also means, the crafts would have to be unavailable from time to time, for a few hours up to days, if the big checks are performed.
