I often use it for exactly that type of editing, so no, I don't know anything similar that would be a nice, simple replacement for MS Paint, sorry.

ohartenstein23 - You did read the question, right?

I use Paint Shop Pro 7 for most of my work - pallets, sprites, and file types ect.

What I need is a easy to use simple bitmap editor - without all the useless stuff that programers try to add - for the little fiddely bits of the editing.

Could this be what you're looking for?

Looks interesting - but I can't download it, I keep getting a file size error.

Edit: Nevermind - the website just didn't like my download manager.

There was a really nice old program called Neopaint, but last time I checked it was for MS DOS. :P

Alternate Graphics for Piratez Extended - For XPiratez 0.99F5
« Reply #141 on: April 07, 2017, 09:37:49 pm »
Update finished and tested.

Version for XPiratez 0.99F5 is now here on my Google Drive - File is PAAC_V0-99F5.zip

Please delete all older versions before installing this one - if you don't there will be problems with the file structure.

NOTE: PAAC V0.99F5 has two versions of the mod - The Standard one and one specificly made to be used with the Naughty mod.
Please make sure BOTH these mods are listed under the Naughty mod, this will make sure that the mods don't conflict.
You might have to shift them up/down the list to do this.

I'll try and update on the Mod site soon. Done. Now also avalliable on the mod site.

I'm fairly sure it should. And it had a neat shareware version to try it out.

Another noteworthy program that most here might be aware of, which most games like xcom were made with (including Quake 2 by guilty admission of id software)...

DPaint2
http://www.phatcode.net/downloads.php?id=201

I grew up on this program starting from 1993 on. Its a Dos program but you can probably run it in Dosbox, later versions of the program were able to run in higher resolution and (id have to check on this, but might be able to use something other than .lbm)

There is a powerful feature in that program not in most bitmap programs - Anti Aliasing within an 8bit architecture. At least in the version i had this was accessible from a pull down menu (Techniques/Smoothing - F7 key?).

So you draw some squiggleys and the basic form and color shading of what you want to draw right... Then you go over all that with the anti aliasing tool and it blends it just like a 24bit airbush or blur tool would do... using the colors in the palette that match most closely to the smoothed colors.

I don't recall if you are taking requests or not, but if you are may I suggest you take a look at the Guardian armor? It feels a little too bulky and not in theme with the other armor suits, potentially a suit more inline to the "Crew" sprite on the ship equip screen would be better, with an orange visor and slightly more slender design. Anyways, disregard if you aren't taking requests but those are just my two cents.

I think it looks a little bit off too, but considering that its 75 armor and unplugged power armor is 85 I guess its appropriate. If it looked Black with Yellow parts it would be just about fine. The angling on the chestplate reminds me of a vehicle, which reminds me of transformers (bleh).

Im looking for something even more robust than the guardian armor that doesn't take power armor parts to construct - I want to get rid of my guardian armor because of how it looks (even if there was just one more body armor tier beyond that). But im getting the feeling that might be the end of the road and the only way to get something better involves powered junk.

I didn't plan on adding more at this stage, but if you want to make a mockup like jmf did with the runt and gym suits to get your ideas across I'd take a look.

I already have changed the Assassin, Stormy, and Dragonfly suits - I did plan to eventualy do the Defender - the Guardian is based on that right?

Just a reminder: armours are colour-coded, so Guardian would have to remain blue, as it belongs to the blue family.
