The Firaxicon report
« on: October 07, 2015, 04:58:21 pm »
A lot of people have been asking me what my Firaxicon experience has been like, but I didn't wanna clutter the website so I decided to post here instead:

It was super fun! I got to meet some fans like hmaon and Brian, there was some great cosplay on display and a shark for some reason, and someone even had a genuine X-COM Alliance poster for signing. And I thought I was hardcore. :P

Firaxis put on a great show, the panels were fantastic, there was a whole bunch of stuff to see and play, and they are super nice guys that will happily interact with with their fans. I got to talk to them about OpenXcom and they are well aware it exists and have no problems with it (though this isn't a legally binding statement ;)). I also got their community manager contacts so if you guys ever need something on the 2K/Firaxis front I can forward it to them.

To cap it off here's a pic of me and Jake Solomon: https://twitter.com/SupSuper/status/650487354101243904
(if you're wondering if I'm as big as I look, you'll just have to meet me to find out :P)

Sounds like a good time! It's great to see a company that engages so positively with its fans and I'm glad they "support" OpenXCom! I wish one day you could see on the steam XCom: "For better UI, bug fixes and modability, visit www.openxcom.org" ;)

But.. what struck me the most is: There are OpenXCom T-shirts?!

hahaha! I don't publicize my gamer hobbies generally, but OpenXCom is neat enough that I would consider it.

Already got a girlfriend, she already rolls her eyes when I am playing OpenXCom, so I should be safe except for a few more ::) ;)

My ex-girlfriend asked me to choose between XCom and herself... ;) (jk)

It's one-of-a-kind. I can't count on people recognizing me by my devilish good looks. :P

I'm proud of OXC and it's wonderful community.

OXC has received Julian Gollop's approval and Firaxis' recognition... what could you want more?

Now to be honest... that T-shirt was the first thing I noticed in the photo... :)

It was good to meet you to!

The shark's husband/boyfriend was wearing a shirt that said "Straight out of Newfoundland".  For anyone who hasn't played 2012:
Spoiler:
Newfoundland is a scripted mission set in a fishing village with sharks hung up around the pier.  There are Chryssalids hiding in the sharks.

I never knew a guy in a funky shark costume could trigger PTSD.

They should of paraded Sup around the crowds and have a toast in his honour. Then let him get on stage to say whatever he wants too hahah.
