I noticed that in LNG files not presented names/surnames of X-COM soldiers. What about original name generator?

I actually did an experiment with adding my own SoldierNamePool to XcomRuleset at some point and it worked pretty well in conjunction with the existing ones.

However, I don't think it is as much a translation issue as a content issue ;)

Maybe you can make an unofficial unsupported mod for OpenXcom with more names?

The soldier names are separate since they're language-ambivalent (and technically there's already russian names), you get soldiers from all over the globe. :P I don't know if the russian version changed them.

I can externalize them later if you wanna add more though.

All of these names can be translated to Russian (for example, "David Jones" is "????? ?????"), it would be great if you externalize them into lang-file.

Moreover, in russian we have two forms of most surnames - male and female. It also applies for other slavic group languages (at least ukrainian). For example, "Andianov" (male form) for female will be "Andianova" ("?????????") (btw, original file has error - "Gorokhova" surname, which is female form of "Gorokhov"). But there also exception - female form for "Samusenko" or "Zhdanovich" is same. That depends from morphemes at all.

Only way to solve this (as I see) is double set of surnames (20 male and 20 female for each set) and use actual of each pair depending from character's gender.

Problem with "translating soldier names" is they're not like other game strings, once a name is generated it's settled and isn't affected by language settings, and requiring every language to translate every name would be a huge burden.

Having gender-specific surnames shouldn't be an issue though.
