Problems while recording with FRAPS
« on: June 03, 2015, 12:57:30 am »
Hi, I wanted to ask if by chance anyone has experienced this thing. When I hit record button the game slows down drastically although there are moments where the battlescape runs fine. I wouldn't ask this, but when 1.0 hit the world this wasn't any issue. And no this is not my PCs fault as I've recorded lots of videos using fraps and this is the first time.

For those snarky of you, I'm using i7-4770k, 16GB RAM, R290, W8.1 and for recording I'm using WD2003FZEX (WD Black) which has high writing speed for HDD. And as I said after 1.0 hit the world there wasn't any issue for recording OpenXcom.

Does someone have idea why suddenly OpenXcom makes trouble for FRAPS?

Thanks. Well the problem hit me "hard" so I had to go the source so here I am. I hope someone will know what is going on.

Maybe you try out another display filter in Openxcom?

No this is something with the battlescape itself. I found that starting recording in geoscape and loading battlescape seems to work better, but starting recording in battlescape causes slowdown. Although starting to record in main menu and loading battlescape also causes slowdown.

yeah, try either enabling the frame limiter or leave it to opengl and let it vsynch, otherwise fraps might be trying to capture at 1000 frames a second

You may want to consider recording with dxtory using MagicYUV with the FPS cap set to 60.
