Positive Monthly Income, but Every Month I lose money.
« on: January 20, 2015, 06:00:34 am »
Hey Guys, I'm on my first ever attempt at a campaign, and I noticed this issue happened the last 3 months in a row.

My income is almost $7 million and my expenses are $750 thousand. But the last few months there have been substantial deductions from my balance after the monthly review screen. The last one being roughly -$600,000, putting me into the red.
I can't figure out why I would be losing money, is this a bug or am I missing something? Any Ideas?

Did you look into base expenditures of EACH base or just first one?

7 millions is very likely. A full lab costs 1.25 million already.

My bet is that you're not considering maintenance (which is separate from expenses).

Expenditure (expenses) is the one time cost of everything you buy, hire, build or manufacture during that month.
Maintenance is the monthly cost of all the facilities/craft/personnel you have.
Income is all the money you get from the Council and also from selling stuff.

Can you post a save game?

Ah, I didn't realize that each base had a separate Monthly Costs screen. I was only checking it while on one of my Interceptor bases, so it was only a portion of the information. Turns out the expenses at my Main Base are over $7 Million! Who knew super secret scientists demanded such high salaries!

Thanks for clearing that up everyone, guess I just need to increase my cashflow!

That's why total expenditures must be added to base expenditures screen. There is plenty of space and it's really frequent issues for most of players. Not only newbies (summing up after watching each is not fun).

Graphs sum them up for you.

Graphs don't have numbers, and base expenditure misleads people.
Because Income is TOTAL, but MONTHLY COST is partial. Inspite being on the same line. It's just illogical.

Base information screen should have total base cost and THIS base score.

Maybe "This base total" or sort of.

Quite frankly, maybe we could add some arrows to scroll bases on that screen. We could also clarify it a little by adding the base name on the title so it's like "Monthly Costs for *base name here*"
