Need a little help installing
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:49:35 am »
I read the wiki section about installation, but I'm a little....erm, unsure.

It sounds like I need to have the game previously installed. Is this correct, or can I take the resources that openXcom needs and copy them directly from my Collector's Edition CD without installing the CE version?

I ask because my computer gives me the fits when I try to install something that is from the Windows XP era....damn you Microsoft for 64 bit Win7!

Thank you in advance. And thank you to the openXcom crew for giving us old school fans, and the newcomers, a way to enjoy the original.

yes, you can simply copy the files from your CD. the installer just scans for a previously installed copy for ease-of-use, but transferring the data "by hand" is a viable option.

i'd recommend grabbing the nightly while you're at it ;)

The useful directories to copy are :  GEODATA, GEOGRAPH, MAPS, ROUTES, SOUND, TERRAIN, UFOGRAPH, UFOINTRO, UNITS
You may want to make a zip of them and keep them around, so that if you need to reinstall OpenXCOM later, you don't need to get the CD again.
