Hi Ivan! Just caught up with the few last episodes, had been unable to watch for a while. Great job as usual. There was some suspense over the choosing of the potential IronMan. I was thinking "Come on! Scroll down a bit.. here's a Heavy with decent TUs and not much else..!! Pick me!".

If you ever give it another try, I would like to volunteer! My soldier has all you need (TUs & Strength enough for a lot of grenades), and nothing to be wasted (got bad reactions, bad firing accuracy, bad melee accuracy) so he seems to be a good candidate. If you get another small scout, you can shoot them down safely with a cannon, no need to hope that they will land too!

Regarding pistols:
The laser pistol is more like a shotgun. It's really crappy at range (worse aimed shot accuracy at 68% instead of 78%-85%), but you gain an auto-shots. 28% of soldier accuracy looks small, but with 3 shots it can be pretty good up close. That makes it a good breaching weapon since you know you will be at short range any ways. They're great for soldiers with low accuracy (the small FA means they lose less in absolute accuracy than a high FA soldier) and it lets them shoot away with infinite ammo until they manage to hit something.

Comparatively, the plasma pistol is really the "master weapon" better performance up close with the autoshot at 50%, about equal to a service pistol over long range (twice as many TUs to shoot, twice the damage, a bit more accurate).

So scout and snipe should still work: Rookies in the front with lasers, marksmen in the back with plasma. Rookies first when breaching, of course, that's common courtesy! (and makes a lot of sense, weapon/soldier value wise)

Cheers!

@Arthanor: excellent summary... couldn't write it better myself ;-)

@Ivan: any chance of resurrecting me? XCOM heaven is getting a bit boring... I'd swap drinking ambrosia with killing Sectoids any day... are there even days in heaven?

@Arthanor: Excellent breakdown on the pistols! Thanks!   I've recorded quite a bit ahead, but the advice is still quite relevant! :D

@Meridian: You are definitely on the list for revive.  I'm working through clones in the order of death.  Same rules apply though.  They get named when they make squaddie. ;)\

Nice run, quite exciting and a welcome change from most LPs. What programs do you use to record and edit?

Although its probably a bit late in the series to change things up, did you ever consider the Equal Terms Mod? It adds an machine-pistol, SMG, and Magnum revolver to the mix for a bit more ballistic variety.

Hi ChainsawAardvark!  Thanks, it is definitely a change and its been fun. :)

I use Camtasia studio to capture and pre-render.  I render out the game sound in one track, my commentary in another, and both with the video.  I then edit in Adobe Premiere.  I add the intro, the "Last time" segment from the previous vid, insert the new footage and tracks, edit as necessary, laying a new background music track, adjust sound levels, etc. then render into the final video from Adobe Premiere.

I considered the magnum, but didn't feel like it improved all that much.  The SMG is on the border line of too big in my mental filter for this series.  I didn't really consider the machine pistol either.  I haven't tested any of these, so none of these are informed decisions.  I have only seen some in Jstank's LP and they didn't make that much of an impression.  Because I'm playing with UFOXtender accuracy, auto weapons aren't that appealing.  Though I can see the benefit of a machine pistol in the hands of someone breaching a craft.  The close up multiple hits could help be an insurance policy. ;)

Cheers, Ivan :D
