Sound is actualy very annoying
« on: August 29, 2014, 05:06:16 am »
Hey guys your project is just almost perfect its just a something i always dreamt about since 90s. However, i dunno what you have done with the sound, but it became crunky and annoying i remember original sound was making an erotical massage to my ears. Changing the frequency changes nothing. This thing is very very annoying to an old x-com fan. I dont like to pretend being a douchebag who s finding fault in nearly perfect project, but this sound thing is realy creeping me over. I dunno how noone noticed that. But i d realy love an opportunity to make sound quality like in original dos version of the game. Thank you! If not this sound thing you project is absolute heaven.

Have you tried adjusting the music format?

There are a few mods for sounds too.

HQ Sounds https://www.openxcom.com/mod/high-quality-sounds

Playstation Sound Effects: https://www.openxcom.com/mod/playstation-sound-effects

But, yeah, I'd check your settings.  The sounds are really good in OpenXcom. :)

Your post isn't very specific. Maybe you should record it so we can know if there's a problem with it or not.

Otherwise, there were 2 versions of sounds. The 1.0 release and the later 1.4/Windows release had two different sound sets. You may just be remembering the other one.

You also could just have rose-tinted, uh, earbuds. The original DOS version was anything but high quality, the sounds were only 8-bit 8KHz, and the 1.4 sounds weren't much better (11KHz)
