Mac OS X port debug & testing
« on: June 23, 2014, 12:31:12 pm »
This topic is created specifically to address the need for constant feedback reporting on Mac-specific port issues and bugs. If you experience any of those, describe them here in detail. Always include your meta-info, like OSX version number, build tested, relevant notes (like options, mods used and so on) and crash/debug logs, if any (preferably with the help of services like this one - https://hastebin.com/).

Let's see if the new debug build works for those people who experience crashes one way or another - https://www.mediafire.com/download/ti9rrt51co3ukjl/OpenXcom-debug20140623.zip

Hello, back again...

It works for me now Mac OS X 10.9.3 BUT, when I go to start new battle I get a graphical glitch on clicking various options. For example when I go to New Battle its ok - games green GUI, and when i click equip craft graphics turns to glitched yellow coloured UI just for a couple of frames and then changes back to standard game UI colouring. It is quite annoying.

This also happens sometimes on entering battle / leaving battle within Geoscape. Otherwise no crashes ...

I've experienced similar 'odd' color frames.  Using a different display filter seemed to resolve it.

Hello, mostly works OK, except glitched frames. Build crashes on selecting Display filters in main menu options.

So after watching a few people playing this on other (windows) machines, it seems like the OSX version doesn't fullscreen any base info screens.
It fullscreens the soldier inventory whenever accessed, but no other menus.  Don't know if this is normal.  I do have the maximize info screens option on.
Thanks!

edit:  after messing around with the geoscape scale, I realize it does fullscreen base stuff in 'original' mode only.
Which is fine, but low res globe not as cool.

Downloaded today the Mac stable 1.0 build for demonstration purposes ;)

Everything works NP, no strange frames... No crashes whatsoever. Was the 1.0 stable build silently updated?

This feels like an incredibly stupid question, but....

How do I switch out of OpenXcom in OS X, without quitting?  The normal thing -- Cmd-Tab -- does not work.  I have to fully quit the game.

Thanks.

I seem to have found an answer, kind of... alt-enter to go into windowed mode, alt-enter to go back.

All in all, the Mac version is very stable. The only area I'm having trouble with is mods. Some work, but many, usually with new graphics, crash on load.

Same issue on two different Macs.
OS 10.9.4, 2.2 GHz quad core i7
OS 10.9.4, 2.5 Ghz dual core i5

I read in another message that there was an issue with OSX converting 8bp gif files to 32bp. Is this still the case, and if so, any idea if a fix is in the works?
Is there a fix that can be applied locally to the files? I'm not opposed to setting up a script to do an imagemagick batch conversion, or even doing it in Photoshop if need be.
