Optional Bonus for missions
« on: June 10, 2014, 11:32:51 am »
To make missions more diverse, what about adding optional requests? Once you arrive to crash, or landing site, etc, you get a short brief when tell to you where are, and the main and secondary objetives.

Secondary should be optinal, yet gives to you some bonus, maybe some country loyalty, more cash, etc.

For example:

- rescue a VIP civilian -> A random civilian is generated, you need to protect him.
- Try to no destroy enviroment due unnestable situation. Maybe its a sensitive place, maybe is there a gas exhaust vents that makes explosive stuff not a very good idea
- Capture an alien is a must
- Generate some crates that must be recovered
- No civilian shoud see the UFO, so all civilian shoud be stunned.
- An infiltration mission against other humans, where you need to pick some stuff and the run, not need to kill everything (this could be great to try to recover a country from Aliens)

From Ufo: Aftemath i really like that you could do a rescue mission to recover a pilot from a failed intercept misison :)

I like the Idea in general, but there's only one problem:

The AI is sometimes literally brainless, especially if it comes to Civilians.
So instead of a Civilian seeking cover, they could just run into the open field and get the next best Plasma-Projectile into the face.

The "no Civilian should see the UFO" is also a bit ridiculous, since a good part of the population certainly has the Infos about Aliens attacking Earth.
By stunning them, you make it technically easier for the Aliens in case the X-Com Squad fails, since the Civilians cannot run away anymore.

Otherwise the Idea of having secondary objectives is very neat, tho the main objective shouldn't change for most missions.
New Missions to recover a Country would be also interesting, or a Mission to Infiltrate an Alien Outpost to uncover a Base.

how about a ("hard to find (very small for radar? huge in battlescape)") ufo that lands in the country once a month for a short time (ufo has 2 life - even with canon you can not crash it just destroy it) - you are forced to attack at any time day/night and perhaos need a fast transporter to reach the ufo on the ground
if you finish this mission with at least XXXX score or without losses or with only 30% aliens killed ... you get a ~10% chance that the infiltration is stopped

Well if you stun a civilian, should be safe if that event is on. Same as VIP civilian, could be great if you can control him, or if it spawn with your XCom.

But all this things could be better is some kind of script can be used and run randomnly, just for making unexpected events. I like on 2013 Xcom when from time to time the countries ask to you some requests. Maybe you need to decide what country to give that request, giving a + on their friendly metter and lowering to the other.. Just giving some life to the planet :)

When you abort a mission with a soldier outside the craft (maybe unconscious, maybe not), I always liked to assume that the aliens tried to capture them and take them to alien bases.

Say this was implemented. After this happens, the next time you assault an alien base it would be a secondary objective to free your captured soldiers. However, if that soldier wasn't unconscious at the time you aborted the mission, there would only be a 50% chance of them being present in the alien base, and not lost forever, since they may have tried to fight back.

Yeah, i like it, Qpoter. :) Some rescue mission after a great failure sounds like a very nice idea. Same with a lose base, fighting on a ruined old base, may you can return some goodies.

If the aliens don't immediately go to town on your base, that'd be a pretty cool mission. You'd be fighting for the whole base, although maybe some stuff would be lost either because the aliens destroyed it or it was a casualty of the base defense mission.

What other events might cause an alien invasion? For example, maybe Aliens try to create a global disease (or worse, the Aliens themselves)
